Just had 3 nights there and I can say it is a beautiful hotel in a nice quiet location about 15 mins walk out of town or 5 mins on the e-bus for 3chf each.
Easy walk to the Gorner Gorge which is worth an afternoon trip especially if linked with lunch at the superb restaurant Blatten!!
We Called for a pick up from the station and the guy was there promptly waiting for us. He handled all our bags on Check in whilst we sipped on a nice welcome drink in the sun on their beautiful patio.
Breakfast is good. WiFi is good. Overall comfort is good in bedroom and bathroom. Small things that stopped me giving a 5 star review
1. Really hot in the room - they don’t have aircon and didn’t offer a fan
2. One electric point!!! How to charge several devices at once? (They put a bath in the room but no more than one electricity plug!!)
3. Pics on the web imply you can get a good view of the Matterhorn! Well you can’t unless you’re in one of perhaps 3 or 4 rooms in the whole place. If you want that view make sure you ask specifically for it!!

Beautiful as it was I’m not sure I would stay there again especially not at the prices they charge!!

Dear Wayne_isc

Thank you for your review and we are happy to hear that you overall enjoyed your stay with us.

We also thank you for your critical feedback as we always try to improve our services.
Regarding the heat in the room, it is not usual in the Swiss mountains to have air conditioning as it gets quite fresh at night (approx. 10°C). Therefore we recommend to close the curtains during the day and open a window to avoid the room of heating up.
Unfortunately, we cannot really understand where there was only one electric point as we have plugs on both sides of the bed (3 on each side) as well as 3 plugs in the bathroom.
Regarding the picture on the website, it is also mentioned that the Matterhorn can only be seen from our Matterhorn Spa double rooms (therefore the name). All our other rooms have a view to the surrounding mountains.

We would be pleased to welcoming you again and send you best regards from Zermatt

The hotel is perfectly positioned in a peaceful corner of Zermatt, just a short walk to the bus station or to the city center.

We stayed at the Matterhorn Spa Double Room and had our own private spa area with sauna, hammam and freestanding bathtub. The room was spacious, bright and lovely decorated with wood ceilings and glamorous chandeliers. The bed was large and comfortable, the bathroom had two sinks and a separate toilet, there was also a small working area and private balcony with spectacular view of the Matterhorn peak.

Matthiol Boutique Hotel offers a variety of dishes at Dishes at Filet et
Fils restaurant. You can even choose to dine in an igloo in front of
the hotel and try the authentic Swiss fondue while gazing at the
Matterhorn night sky. The breakfast was served in the main restaurant and it offered everything you desired. From different pastries, muesli, yogurt, Swiss cheese, salami to eggs, fresh juices, coffee, tea and even prosecco. We had a lunch on the slopes at the Stafelalp Restaurant which has a spectacular view of the Matterhorn peak. The restaurant is located at 2,2220 meters and you can reach it by choosing the track number 52. Expect the delicious Swiss cuisine on the menu, accompanied by a well-chosen wine list featuring samples from Switzerland and its surroundings. On our first night, we tried the famous Tavolata, which is a three-course meal suitable for two persons and it tasted divine. For starter we received a mixed Matthiol salat, for the main course there was a plate with different sorts of meat baked on an open grill (delicious), french fries and some vegetables and for the desert, there was a special “surprise” which contained four different desserts and they all just melted in our mouth.

Definitely a lovely hotel, with delicious cuisine, cozy rooms, great spa and friendly staff members.

Nice hotel located more toward the end of Zermatt. Overall modern decor and nice friendly staff at reception (mostly). Cocktail bar and a restaurant that offers 3 igloos for the cheese fondue or a normal a la carte menu inside. The room has nice decor and a variety of options including spas inside the room.

Hotel Matthiol is a very new boutique hotel which is gorgeous, luxurious, stylish, and well run in every respect. It is located in a very quiet location above the Winkelmatten area of Zermatt, about a 15 minute walk (or 10 minute bus ride or 7 minute $25 (!) electric taxi ride) from the center.

This is one hotel where the website and photos don’t oversell the property: it is every bit as gorgeous as it looks. The entry, bar, restaurant, spa (wow!) and rooms are just wonderful. The design is clean and stylish everywhere, with fireplaces, candles, and wonderful places to sit and read or visit everywhere. Because it is a small boutique hotel, there are never crowds of people, and yet it never appears deserted either; there were always other interesting guests to see or meet.

The spa and wellness center is included in the room price and is drop-dead gorgeous, with low mysterious lighting and candles everywhere. There was a large dry sauna (which was not hot enough-management needs to fix this, the rocks didn’t even sizzle with water), and two steam rooms, one of which was an amazing grotto appearing to be cut out of solid rock like a cave, which menthol scented steam and slowly changing subtle LED colored up-lights. Near the dry sauna was an outdoor whirlpool which was wonderful in the falling snow, although again, the water was not hot enough although turned to the highest setting, even in the early evening when it had been on all day.

The staff were outstanding-all of them. At all times they were helpful and wanted to do everything they could to ensure we had a nice stay. They also called restaurants for us (it is nearly impossible to get a same day reservation in Zermatt’s high season).

Breakfast buffet was fantastic in their gorgeous dining room. Very tasty and they also provide you with a hot item like omelette, pancake (oddly, just one single small pancake), in addition to the buffet. The coffee machine is a particular delight, automatically making all sorts of coffees and all of them delicious. If you love coffee, you can have all the excellent coffee you want without always searching for a waiter!

Finally the room. We selected a spa room with Matterhorn view, and I assumed it would be like most hotels where you can see the view if you lean out the window and strain to see. No. It was simply spectacular. The Matterhorn dominates the view from the entire room, from the large tub by the bed (seems strange but romantic!) to the spa area at the other end. And yes it was like a full spa. One room was a two seat dry sauna, which worked brilliantly and takes just 30 minutes to heat up, and the other room was a wonderful steam shower. Both featured LED lighting and music (music wasn’t working as they explained when they brought us into the room). In addition there was a bathroom with two sinks and a separate toilet, with a smoked glass door to the bathroom that was almost soundproof to the room.

And the balcony was also wonderful. It was deep and probably 15 feet long, with two chairs and a table, and a view of the Matterhorn that was almost pristine; only one other building (a nice small chalet/condo I think) is visible between you and the Matterhorn; but it is shorter and does not interrupt the view. Below us was the “front yard” of the hotel, which featured four small “fondue igloos”; which are charming single table plastic domes just outside the restaurant, where you can book a romantic meal surrounded by snow. We didn’t eat in an igloo, but it looked wonderful and is usually booked each night.

I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced a nicer hotel experience. It was expensive but worth it. Highway compliments to owner and manager of the hotel for the outstanding experience they offer.

I and my son stayed for 4 nights and we enjoyed every single minute of it. The whole atmosphere is very cosy and relaxing while offering high class service. Not too much, certainly not too little, just perfect. What we liked? The breakfast, the Spa, the bar, the people, service and dinner. The rooms and decorations are very nice throughout the hotel. Bus service to Zermatt and sky stations is very nearby but you don’t get disturbed by the nightlife crowds! We loved it!!!
