We're so glad we listened when a friend recommended the Phoenix. Room was impeccable--perfect-- the breakfast they served was the best ever-- amazing offering of wonderful meats, cheeses, fish, cereal, fruit, eggs.. and each one presented just right. The two owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. This was the best of Swiss hospitality! And a great value! (We'd lived in Switzerland for a while, and we know it when we see it!)

Booked here last minute after an Airbnb snafu and could not have been more pleased. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very clean and tidy. Everything feels very new. The reception folks were super friendly and helped us to find the best restaurants and the best hikes. The location was great! The breakfast was very good and the expresso machine was a real hit with us. We would 100% stay here again!!

We got a free upgrade to a Matterhorn view from our room. The front desk staff, as well as the owners, were very friendly and helpful with tips and local hiking recommendations. Breakfast was delicious (included in the room price).

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Matterhorn from your room, not just the balcony.

Lovely surprise, as we booked this after a last-minute decision to visit Zermatt during our two-week trip to Switzerland. This was off-season, as it seems that at least half of the restaurants and many of the hotels were not open in May. But it was a beautiful time to visit, and if you are not doing winter sports, a great time to avoid most of the crowds. Just keep in mind that because there are fewer facilities open, those that are will get busy quickly (reservations a must). We booked this hotel because we wanted a Matterhorn view. We were two couples, and my husband and I got the Matterhorn view room, which meant a view from the little balcony outside (although it had room for a table and two chairs). Our basic view was of the wonderful valley and hillsides, plus the ubiquitous construction equipment in the area. Our friends booked the Matterhorn view suite, which was about $50 a night extra, but is at the corner of the building with about a 150 degree view through floor to ceiling picture windows. No balcony for them, but you could open the windows and lean out over a metal railing to take pictures. They also had a wonderful deep bathtub, and a chaise longue in the room.Pretty special. Our room had comfortable twin beds pushed together with personal reading lights, safe, nice closet with lots of hangars, and a small, but very efficient bathroom with good shower and nice towels. As we had found throughout Switzerland, there was only one bed cover, which was a duvet, and it was very warm. No sheets or lightweight blankets. Fortunately, the room had those wonderful Swiss doors out to the balcony that open traditionally, or latch and open from the top like giant windows, so we were able to cool off the room. Cannot address the rooms without a view. The hotel was built in 2009, but everything looks new and immaculate. It is located about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station, and there is an uphill section that can be a strain with luggage. They have a service to pick you up from the train station, but they charge $5 a person, and you can easily get a cab for the same amount. There was a fabulous breakfast with a great choice of eggs, sausage, sliced meats and cheeses, cold fish, fresh fruit, various cereals, lots of bread and a few pastries, plus a coffee machine to make what you want. The dining room is lovely, and the lobby and bar are warm and cozy with wonderful views. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and friendly.
The hotel rating from Switzerland is three-stars, and I can't imagine what they require for four stars, but I would certainly say they are underrated.

Room Tip: Pay extra if you want a Matterhorn view

Zermatt: be ready to pay the price but different to other Alpine locations the town is car-free, only electrotaxi, bicycles and pedestrians. This means quite, day and night. Also there are few buildings that are not in style with the chalets (old and new) but being of the same heigth as the sorrounding buildings they don't stick out-no high towers, no modern buildings and some old chalets that really gives the idea of how it was. back in time. Now, the hotel: wonderful, modern in style, good material (wood and stone), sturdy walls (you won't hear the neiboughrs). Staff incredibly friendly, the best information (hikes and restaurants) on the place we received from them, not from the dis-information office. I requested an extra duvet for mom before leaving for dinner-it was in the room when we arrived back. Breakfast is fantastic, wonderful selection of salty and sweet, backery, cheese selection, etc. On the first morning, I asked for a candle to blow as it was mom's BD- promptly the host brought it with two glases of sparkling wine (that had not been requested but happily enjoyed). Room with Matterhorn view-yes, on the left one can see the mountain. We can only recommend the hotel and thank the staff for their friendliness and helpful suggestions-if we had followed them, we would not have ended up walking for 4 hours on uneven terrain, which was strenous for mom! I read one review that said the host was popping up all times -kind of checking the guests- it is not our experience, though the host is in the breakfasand constantly checking that there are no empty baskets, the fact that he checks straight after a guest has taken something from a dish may leave the weired impression reported. Oh, one more thing: we had 2 rooms for single occupancy: only one duvet and one pillow and one set of towels...it seemed odd at the begininng but reason, how many do you need and this is a true way to be environmentaly friendly-so, it was very welcome! Location, away fromthe main road but withinh walking distance to the town centre. We have already recommended the hotel to our family and, now, to the world. We would not hesitate one second to book there again.
