Owner description: Icy air streams across your face, snow crunches under your feet, and the view nearly takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Mittelland up to the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch glacier, bordered by four thousand metre peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 metres above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.

We meet the tour at the bus station, in Zurich. Very easy to find.
After the bus ride we took the cogwheel Train up to Jungfrau, it was a beautiful clear day 1 degrees up the top. Don’t forget your jacket , gloves, and beanie.
Our guide Fernando was the best, a very pleasant, informative guide.
We had the best day ever!

It’s the most expensive train journey to reach the highest station at Europe.
It’s important you carry snow weather protection garments and gloves to enjoy glaciers.
We enjoyed the abundance of snow & played with snow balls .
Start your day early morning at 6 an to enjoy this destination till evening ,Sphinx Observatory not to be missed,

This is our fourth trip to the region but our first to the Jungfrauhoch. It is very expensive, even with the Swiss Travel Pass. But on a bright day ( avoid unless the weather is great) the views of peaks, glaciers, rock are stunning in every direction. Arrive early as mornings are less prone to storms or clouds, AND less prone to mobs of tour groups. The view terrace, Sphinx observation platform, and glacier walk to the monschhutte are all impressive. The latter, billed as 45 minutes each way, was a high elevation, much longer, uphill trek. On this glorious day, it was all worth the time and effort. But with the walk and a little time at the hut, the activity alone was 2.5 hours. Bring layers, gloves, sun protection, and the usual Swiss hiking gear (boots, etc.). Pack a lunch or snacks to avoid the crowded, mediocre restaurants (or eat a light meal at the hut.)

The downsides were the crowds of tour groups and the silly attractions inside. The crowded Lindt Chocolate store is duplicated all over the country. The ice sculptures are missable and the shops filled with souvenirs guaranteed to gather dust. A giant snow globe sits by hokey carved figures. The flow of the place is hard to fight but bravely push by all of the selfie people and get outside.

The journey to Kleine Scheidig from Wengen is stunning. The trip through the Eiger is, well, a tunnel. Reserve a seat to minimize the crush.

I knew it would be cold in December with snow all around, but I have lived in those temperatures and have also visited several countries in winters. So, the weather was not in my mind. It was the reminiscences that made me smile.
On reaching the top it was as beautiful as it could be! A winter wonderland with a beautiful sunny day welcomed me. We warmed up with a cup of hot chocolate and then next thing I wanted to do was to play out in the snow.
Located between mountains Mönch and Jungfrau, Jungfraujoch is an alpine attraction and viewing point. It is in the heart of the UNESCO Natural World Heritage property “Jungfrau – Aletsch – Bietschhorn”.

Among outdoor activities, if the weather is with you; you can opt for the following.
• Go out and play in the snow like I did and enjoy the view of the Grosser Aletsch glacier and other surroundings.
• Hiking across the glacier to the Mönchsjoch hut is another activity I like very much. It takes approx. an hour to do it.
• You reach 117M further up the Sphinx observatory by a lift. Here you can enjoy a 360° view, both from the terrace and from the comfort of a building with panoramic windows.
• In summer you can also go for sledging, skiing, snow tubing or snowboarding in the Snow Fun Park (not included in the train ticket).

You can enjoy following indoor activities.
• Explore the Ice Palace with many ice sculptures including one of the great comedian Charlie Chaplin.
• The Alpine Sensation is a moving walkway with images, light and music, maps and stories and statues of the excavators and miners who built the Jungfrau Railway network.
• Choose one of the many restaurants for a nice lunch. There are six different restaurants serving European and Asian-style food. In summer, the Bollywood restaurant is open, serving Indian specialties.
• There are several exhibitions and informative multimedia shows that are shown from time to time.
• Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven where, through a recorded film, you can learn about the history of chocolate and how it is made. Of course you can buy chocolate as well.

Tip: Your trip could be a half a day trip or a day trip depending on your departure time and activities. Keep at least two hours for Jungfraujoch.

Where else can you stand at the top of Europe? Absolutely gorgeous views of the Aletsch glacier and surrounding valleys from the ‘sphinx’, and although there was plenty of snow around, it wasn’t that cold, surprisingly! Quite a sprawling complex within the mountain. Recommended!
