“A real bit of Assisi”

This little apartment in a row of stone cottages is full of local colour, with old wooden furniture, and plenty of wall decorations and knick-knacks. The view from the rear balcony is of the hills dappled by the rising sun, and around it are equally old stone buildings. It is within the limits of the old city, at exactly the opposite end from the St Francis Basilica, about a 15 minute walk down the hill to it, but it's much closer to the main square, about 5 minutes walk. Free parking was handy, a few hundred metres up towards the Rocca Magiore, and we always found a space. There are loads of restaurants immediately available, generally fine and good value. The apartment has an oven and hob, but we didn't cook beyond coffee/tea and heating bread. There is a small food and essentials shop down the hill towards the square. The Hotel La Rocca, just a few metres away, deals with large groups in its very large restaurant, which can be noisy, but the food there is very nice and it was a God-send for us to have somewhere so close the night the rain came down. Trattoria da Erminio, a couple of streets away, was recommended by Stefano and is a beautiful and very atmospheric place under brick vaulted arches. **** Important note if you are driving to Assisi: Via Porta Perlici is not only a one way street, but it also has two sections meeting at right angles, by an arch alongside Hotel La Rocca. The apartment is in the first, higher part of the street, not down the lower part towards the town after the arch/hotel, where we were directed by the satnav and by passers by. You also have to drive along a lot of narrow streets and corners to get in and out, so my small rental was fine but a larger UK car would certainly have been a trial. Note also that access to the apartment is upstairs inside the street door, and the stairs are pretty steep, but only a few, maybe about eight-ten of them.

“Charm, character, and what a view!”

On first entering this apartment, our immediate reaction was "Wow!" It is beautifully furnished in a traditional way, in keeping with the character of the building. And the view really has to be seen to be appreciated! The balcony looks out over a beautiful valley and the fortress of Rocca Minore, the view ever-changing according to the weather conditions and time of day. The location was perfect for us – in a quiet street, just a short stroll from the centre of Assisi. The apartment was warm, clean and comfortable (we were there in February, when Assisi can be chilly), with plenty of room for two adults and two teenagers. There are two separate bedrooms, with very comfortable beds. The cooking facilities and equipment are very good, and there is a small grocery shop nearby on the Via San Rufino, where we were able to buy all the basics, as well as local Umbrian food and wine. The apartment didn't have wi-fi at the time we were there, but this wasn't a problem as there is wi-fi in nearby restaurants and in the town centre.

We really loved this apartment; we felt privileged to be able to stay there. We couldn’t have had a nicer base from which to explore Assisi. Thank you, Stefano - we greatly appreciate your kindness and helpfulness.

“Charming, beautiful view, traveler's dream”

The apartment was delightful and had a most beautiful view of a pristine valley. We have amazing views of the sunrise and misty mornings from the balcony. The apartment offered all the necessary equipment, and easily accommodated 2 couples and has good cooking facilities. Doing laundry was a plus The host was also charming and we are glad to have made this connection. We would definitely return to this location if traveling to Assisi in the future. Thanks for a lovely time..

“A true hidden gem”

Nestled in the historic district of old Assisi is a hidden gem, still waiting to be discovered. Owned and managed by helpful Stefano, Da Regina is a delight to behold and even better to experience as a vacation rental. It is filled with interesting antique furniture and furnishings and is perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking a beautiful river valley. A big, big plus is a spacious balcony overlooking the valley with large doors opening into the apartment filling the house with light as the sun rising over the distant mountains floods the house with warmth.
The house is in easy walking distance of the centre of town and all the attractions, and also to the fortress Rocca Magiore. Assisi is a grand destination at any time but is especially magical during the Calendimaggio festival which we had the priviledge to experience first hand.
Anyone thinking of a trip to Assisi would be well served to stay in Da Regina. We stayed for 7 nights and it was NOT enough!
