We have recently been back to this gem of Tuscany, for the first time in 22 years. Whilst time certainly moved on for us, nothing seems to have changed here.
The amazing architecture and the conservation of this town, the quant little shops, the cafes and restaurants, and the extremely friendly people made for a very pleasant stay.
It is well positioned within Tuscany which makes for easy day trips to Sienna, Florence and the wine area of Chianti.
It will hopefully not take us another 22 years before we return!

Thank Daniël K

A real jewel of a walled medieval city, but crowded because of its well-deserved popularity. It’s a real pleasure to walk through the city and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding hills, with their endless olive groves and vineyards, from the ramparts. The atmosphere of a medieval town with its narrow streets is somewhat spoiled by the tourist shops, but only somewhat.
You can avoid the worst of the crowds by arriving before 10AM or after 5PM. It’s a real gem and absolutely worth the trip. Highly recommended.

San Gimignano is a very impressive and unique place. Like time has stopped and you feel like you are in a middle age town. You can walk in beautiful narrow streets, and see the beatiful view of the plains from towers or terraces. The negative side is too crowded. If you have limited time and have a car, I suggest you take half a day for San Gimignano, two hours for Volterra and one hour for Monterrigioni, tiny middle age castle village. You can stay in San Gimignano, Siena or Florence and complete this route in one day.
