“Excellent location and size but not well equipped”

We stayed in apartment 2, which is massive, with an entire spare room which we used as an extra bedroom so the children didn't need to share. All the rooms are huge, with views across Tuscan countryside in all directions. It was very clean too. It's close to San Gimignano and within easy reach by car of Sienna, Florence etc so there can be no complaints about the location. There is a kitchen, but it's very basic with a few old pots and pans and cutlery - no dishwasher or washing machine or kettle. The beds are a bit basic too and we were given the most random collection of old towels - they were clean, but old. The owners are charming and helpful and are on the site most of the time and fluent in several languages. I would recommend this apartment but don't go thinking you could entertain or throw a party - the kitchen equipment lets it down a little. Teenagers were gutted at the lack of wi-fi but it is in a remote location so perhaps not surprising!

Management Response

The kitchen is very large, there are also oven, fridge and freezer. All pots and pan are not old, but some are made in aluminum that better trasmits the heat. Our estate is part of an european project with the aim to reduce the ecological impact during wine production and we use the same approach in our apartments (aluminum is used to reduce the consumption). Dishwasher, washing machine and kettle are not included as it is clearly seen in our listing. Towels are in different colors in order to be easily recognizable by everyone, but they are not old neither damaged, also if someone uses them in the garden and this is not allowed, everyone has to bring his beach towels. This is an apartment for family not to have a party. It is perfect to relax and we are happy to offer every guest a professional wine tasting for free.

“A quiet peaceful part of Tuscany, but ideally placed for the major attractions.”

The photos don't do this place justice.
I only booked it because I wanted the location - far enough away from an autostrada to avoid any noise but close enough to allow easy access to the main places we wanted to go. So I took a bit of a risk booking it, without lots of decent reviews. I'm really glad I did!
It was lovely, in an idyllic swath of country with glorious views of San Gimignano. It was so calm, only the cigales chirping away and the sound of our seven year old splashing in the salt water pool. It's not a five star hotel, but the apartments are charming, and much more confortable than the photos suggest. (My son didn't recognise his own room from the photos, honestly don't be put off.) They're very spacious, with wonderful high rooves, and exposed beams, and all that you need to self-cater, above the owner's own home. (If you want complete seclusion than this might not be for you. You will have to engage with the owners, and other charming guests, which was for us a delight.) The gardens are perfectly kept, and the pool pristine. The owners are extremely kind and caring. Senora Rosti goes out of her way to help, in more ways that you can imagine. eg showing me how she makes her lavander and fruit jam, giving us a bowlful to try, advising me on mothering teenagers (although teenagers are different in Italy....). Her jovial adult son, Nicole, is incredibly affable, nothing is too much trouble, or a problem, (like locking myself out on the first day, or tripping the electricity.) They offer a wine tasting of their wine, which you must try. There's no pressure to buy, (although you will be wishing you could take a case home, because it's cheaper than the worst plonk at tesco, but tastes like something you'd get in a top restuarant and pay the earth for.) The mosquitos were virulent when we were there (worst in Pisa) and pretty evil here, amongst all the verdant rolling vineyards. Fortunately all the apartments have mozzie screens. But we also used huge amounts of other products to keep them away, because we wanted to dine al fresco, in the garden, without enduring ten welts per arm per night. Senora Rosti has planted geraniums everywhere which she says keeps mosquitos away, but the little buggers don't seem to have noticed. The only thing I wished for was that we had a balcony. The views in aprtment 3 (smaller than the enormous aprt 2) are to die for, (cypresses, San Gimignano) but if you want to be outside you have to go down to the garden. But this is a converted farm building, and balconies weren't in the original. (And it's no good if you have mobility issues, because all the apartments are up stairs.) All in all it was a brilliant place to book for us. Ten minutes drive away from the autostrada connecting Pisa, (I hr 20) Florence (1 hr) Lucca (1hr 20) and Siena, (50 mins), forty minutes from Volterra, fifteen minutes from San Gimignano, (best ice-cream in Italy, try the Rosemary and Raspberry, or the Blackberry and lavender) so all the major places you'd want to visit are an easy distance. And yet you are in the middle of glorious, peaceful Tuscan countryside, so sometimes we just wanted to sit by the pool and marvel at the San Gim towers and sip velvet wine .... We would definitely love to go back.
