We stayed 3 nights at this most beautiful BnB in the hills near San Gimignano. Andrea Berta Julia and staff could not do more for us! We were treated very much like family and would come back in a heartbeat. The highlight was our cooking class with Berta. Haven't had so much fun for a long time. Cooked beautiful, simple but stylish food and then sat and ate it for lunch. Yum! The gardens, swimming pool and surrounds make this a unique place to stay. Give it a go! It's worth every cent!

Room Tip: Rooms with a view are up stairs in the main house. Our room had a beautiful garden view instead.

My and 2 girlfriends and I just returned from a long weekend at Casolare di Libbiano - and literally we couldn't have asked for more. We arrived at this picture-perfect guesthouse after an hour's drive from Florence, which ended in a 3km off road track leading up to the property. From the terracotta pots overflowing with geraniums, to the immaculate pool, to the manicured lawn, this place is straight out of a Tuscan fairytale. It's a small place, a converted farmhouse I think, with maybe 10 bedrooms. However the hosts always gave us plenty of space and despite around 6 other guests at the time, we never had the feeling of being cramped or smothered as you can in these places sometimes. Our 2 room apartment was clean, spacious and decorated in typical Tuscan style (terracotta floors, warm walls, ceiling fans). Breakfast was super fresh croissants, fruit, bread, cheese and cured meats. Dinner was a set 3 course menu, great quality and simple Italian dishes - ok there's no choice, but if it's endless options you're after then go to a big hotel instead. Or drive 20 mins to San Gimignano or Chianti. But if you're looking for utter peace and tranquility, sunshine tracking over the pool/garden all day, simple good food, and unassuming hosts, then I simply don't believe you could ask for more. We're already looking at how soon we can return!

I have booked this place, thinking that it will be in san gimignano, but it is actually 20 minutes away. It is a very hard drive at night. The owners are very very warm and good people, but the hotel is very old. We have stayed at the room, next to the restaurant, so it was a bit noisy at night and in the morning.
If you want to run away from the cities, it is a good location; but it is not a good location if you are going there to visit san gimignano.

Room Tip: dont choose the room next to the restaurant

First of all thank you for your review. We are unpleased to know that you haven't understand that our property is at 8 Km., from San Gimignano village, into a nature reserve, in San Gimignano's countryside. We have try to be clear in all our information and in the homepage of our website. We are happy that you have appreciated the warmth and hospitality of our staff. Thank you for your visit!! All the best!! Berta & Andrea.

Although a little hard to get to, it's well worth it. Berta and Andrea are the warmest people and wonderful hosts. My wife has food allergies and Berta was able to create the most amazing meals. The grounds were well kept and our room had everything we needed. The views were beautiful. Great location and close to other hill top to Villages by car. The overall charm of their B&B and the surroundings made up for the occasional lack of WIFI usage - After all, we were there to soak up the Tuscan beauty.

We had booked for 4 nights, but could barely make it through 3 and left a day early. Breakfast was just too awful. There was no choice of fruit (tiny portion of fruit salad plonked on your table), only 1 option of yoghurt (white, .1 %, runnier than milk). On top of that you received a baguette and a croissant also put on your table. Only choices were wafer thin cold meats and 1 choice of hard cheese. When ordering coffee (no hot water anywhere for tea) you were told to wait as others arrived before you. Coffee weak and milk burnt. The rest (rice crisps etc) are not worth mentioning.

The whole time we were made to feel like an intruder. Every evening we were subjected to Opera music, whether we liked it or not till about 10.30pm. In the mornings the owner felt it necessary to constantly whistle the same tuneless ditty. On top of it all, Wi-fi only worked within a 4sqm area in the living area. Only on the last day did we realize it also works in the car park, but then again we would have preferred it in our room. The mentioning in the their emails about the Wi-fi not working in the rooms did not prepare for this. It became a running joke amongst all guests as we all congregated in the same spot.

Lots of the furniture was extremely old so therefore fairly worn and grubby looking.

The gravel road leading to this place was a lot longer than expected, but also very stressful. We were nearly pushed off the road when coming onto a huge truck in a bend carrying straw bales. Typical Italian driving - the bigger one wins. You certainly don't make that trip easily or quickly - very bendy with far too many blind corners and very very narrow.

Room Tip: No good rooms, especially as no air conditioning

We expected your bad review, since you told us verbally that you will do it, when we informed you that you have to pay the total amount of your booking, according with our cancellation policy, when you have informed us that you have decided, without a motivation, to depart 1 day earlier.
We are really surprise, because the things that you have criticized, they are all explained in our website. We have been always honest, clear and professional people, now is 28 years that we run this business.
In our website you can read:
- That the WIFI reach the common areas (lounges, terraces and garden), not inside the rooms. We also informed you of this by e-mail.
- That to arrive to our B&B there is a dirt road in the nature riserve.
- That our B&B is at 8 km from San Gimignano village, in the countryside.
We inform you that for us the most important thing is that all our guests, as you can read in the reviews, enjoy their stay with us.
We also like to remember you that when you told us that you were disturbed by the backgroud music, that we play just at dinner time (8 till 10/10,30), we have inmediately disconnet it in the lounge, where you were, to not bother you, this is the first time that someone complains about the music, since it is always classical or Italian opera, which our guests like a lot.
The furniture we have in the house are of great value, is not "old", is "antique", that is quite different.
Our daily cleaning is much appreciated by our guests, it is something that we take great care of.
We are sorry to hear that you didn’t appreciate our full commitment to the care of our guests and our home. Regards, Berta & Andrea & staff
