“If you're looking for a real Italian villa, this is the place!”
Reviewed 2 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Beautiful old Italian Villa. We really enjoyed staying in this authentic, very old villa. It was a great experience. The grounds were beautiful, the villa has its own closed in patio and green space. The pool was closed in March but it looked great. The villa had updated bathrooms, with a great shower. The bedrooms were comfortable and roomy. The villa was very close to the road and you could hear the traffic, but as the other reviewer said it did quiet down at night. The villa was about 15 minutes or so outside of Lucca center, we used it as our home base to visit Portovenere, Cinque Terre, and Pisa. We didn't the realize the villa was outside the city but it wasn't too far from the main highway. The kitchen was small but had all the necessary items we needed to make a few easy dinners. Great experience for all of us!

“Charming people, beautiful cottage”
Reviewed 1 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We were in the mill cottage at the side of the house which was every bit as charming as the photos suggest - and the bedrooms have beautiful ceilings. The cottage has a private bit of garden divided from the pool area by an old raised mill race (now dry).

Giova and Chichi were charming and on hand to help if needed (Giova got a mechanic round pronto when we couldn't jump start a flat battery), and eg parking tips in Lucca. The villa is very close to a couple of Lucca's more famous villas.

The pool is great, a good temperature and plenty of comfortable sunbeds.

The only downside was that the cottage was at the side of the villa, right against the road (a small one, and reasonably quiet at night, but quite a few cars pass), and didn't have vistas or views from the cottage itself.

We were overall very happy with this as a charming and characterful base to explore Lucca and the hills and beach and to hang out by the pool. We really enjoyed our stay.
