This was my first time to Lucca so we stayed here on the recommendation of a friend.
A hotel contact transferred us from the airport and thankfully took our bags upstairs. There is a long and unforgiving staircase from the still courtyard to reception - but from there all is good. The room was large with minibar/fridge, and several windows kept us aired. We had a sofa/bed settee I think and a large but narrow and long shower room.
This was a very pleasant place to stay and the staff were very helpful. Breakfast included egg dishes to order and a lovely and extensive local selection on the buffet.

Had a snafu with the B&B i had booked thanks to a travel agency, and the Palazzo had an apartment available- what a great stay i had! Easy check in at the hotel, and staying in a centuries old building, with full kitchen, TV, etc., made for a memorable stay. Was great cooking with local ingredients, with a view of this wonderful town. Coming and going through the shopping district and having this apartment was like having a home- didn’t have any major issues, and checkout was also a breeze.

For those wondering about the location, the town is very walkable. The train station is maybe 15 minutes give or take. Lots of food and drink options nearby.

Lovely boutique hotel in the center of Lucca. This hotel has the charm of an old palazzo and the perfect location if you want to visit the old center and go shopping. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I came with my car and parked overnight in a secure parking in a nearby street arranged by the hotel (see attached map). The receptionist was exceptionally nice and offered to take my (very heavy) luggage up the stairs and made sure I was happy with the service. I highly recommend the hotel.

My wife & I stayed here recently for a long weekend. The hotel itself is wonderful. It is small with only 8 or so bedrooms but because it's small you get that personal touch and that's just what we wanted. All the staff were super helpful in giving directions of where to go and eat.

Breakfast - as already mentioned they offered eggs every morning with freshly squeezed orange juice, tea, coffee and then selection of usual Italian style breakfast

Rooms - renaissance style, clean, very comfy beds!

Location - is superb. Right in centre behind the city walls (which is where you want to be). Located off via fillungo....which is one of the main streets (street term used loosely as all the streets are small and cobbled behind the walls).

Lucca itself - we couldn't fault it. There is so much history and places to see. My wife described it to be like Venice but without the water! Also reminded us of the historic part of Barcelona (narrow, cobbled streets etc). Very safe place...we didn't feel uneasy at any moment on our trip...even when walking round late at night. Highlights below....but I would recommend you ditch the guidebook/ map and just wander....that's what we did and you just walk upon hidden gems!

Highlights for us included the city walls (take a walk on it round the city), stumbling upon a local wine and food festival at Basilica di S. Frediano, meeting the Bishop of Lucca at Cattedrale di San Martino, going up the main tower (Torre Guinigi) to pick out all the sites and to see just how close everything is!, the food (they do this lovely bread sandwich thing) and just walking around and taking in all the sites!

Food - very reasonable....most places do Pizza & Pasta for under 10 euros. Check out the local bakers as they also do excellent food. Bottle water....we managed to find a local grocer selling bottled for just 35 cents!

I'd say that this city is more for couples rather than families.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this city and if you do come here stay here!

Room Tip: We hd room 2 - so faced away from the busier street....however we did stay out of season
