“Lovely villa with good outside space”

Very clean, well maintained villa near to a small town with a few good restaurants and a supermarket. Nearly everything you needed provided. Personally we would have liked some bbq tools, a small sharp knife, larger chopping board, waste bin in bathroom and at pool house, a supply of toilet roll, cloths for wiping up (you were expected to leave kitchen clean, so we had to buy these) and a hand towel in pool house. We also felt the charge for electricity was excessive and should be included in the rental cost. We only used the AC in the bedroom for a few hours per night and were charged almost €50. It is also not ideal to be left with the €600 security deposit at the end of your holiday as you then have to take it back home and pay into your account, losing some in the exchange rate.
Saying that, the villa was very nice and made for a relaxing break or ideal base to travel further afield as train station in town and Florence e.g. 30 min away.

The info we had about the property didn't do it justice. It was really our own private villa. Two actually. A main house, one bedroom, great kitchen, fireplace, family room. Modern bath with shower. Back porch with a built in fire place, wood provide. Counter, sink, and dining table. Then, stroll up the hill to find, an outdoor wood burning pizza oven, another grill, another sink, a pastry counter for making your pizzas. Then go inside building number 2. A sun room/pull out bed/sofa. Another kitchen and bath. All high quality and clean. Then go on to the pool. Which was covered and heated (at our own cost).

Richardo brought us a welcome bottle of wine and some first press olive oil as a welcome.

Wow. Perfect.

5 minutes to the train. 30 minutes to Florence. 3 hours to Venice by train. We did have a car, which is really mandatory. But after we relaxed about Italian drivers, we were fine. Did a lot of exploring, TheMall, a discount outlet venue of high fashion vendors. Castle Nipozzano, wine tasting (and buying), dinners in town and around.

PS Shop for groceries on Saturday before you get there. Most places are closed on Sunday. Almost all on Sunday afternoon. Plus many shops close from 2 to 4 each day.

Rufina is a great location. Plus. They make some outstanding wines in the area.

We will return.

Hints, we brought yeast and some spices from home. You can find most things locally, but small amounts are a challenge. You should pack some corn meal for the pizza oven floor and for the peal. Wine. did I mention the wine. Great.

“Al Solatio villa was more than we expected.”
Reviewed 14 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

First of all the owners Tina and Ricardo were so gracious and generous. The bottle of wine they welcomed us with was so. delicious. The Villa is clean, contemporary and very comfortable. The pool house and pool was amazing and the gate at the entrance was grand and made us feel extremely safe. Everything was splendid.

“A most wonderful villa in Tuscany!”

The villa is a wonderful property and equipped to a very high standard. The setting is spot on with views down the valley to Rufina and beyond. We were met by the owner's Ricardo and Tina together with Stefano to translate. They'd been in touch since we landed though their directions were clear and took us to the front door no problems. They are the most welcoming of hosts, loaning us their umbrella for the rain and dropping us of at a local restaurant for something to eat.

The pool area is perfect for relaxing and the bed lounger became my second home during the week. The gardens are large and lovely and all the roses were in bloom adding to the beauty thought he best cherries always seemed to be just out of reach in the trees.

Rufina is perfectly placed for the train to Florence (remember to validate your ticket using the machine on the platform!), a 33 minutes journey away. The Coop is handy if you like supermarket shopping but the best food is to be had from the small shops in Rufina, well worth the extra effort. For top quality find the indoor market in Florence; the wild boar (cinghiale) and deer (cervo) and local specialities and not to be missed but the tripe was one step to far.

The holiday in Tuscany was one of the most relaxing and beautiful we've had to the point of already looking to book to come again next year. Riardo, Tine, ci vediamo l'anno prossimo!
