With Massimo Batturo's name on it, the expectation was high. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. Conceptually it is interesting, but entirely average in execution. The Charly Marly signature dessert is awful, so rich and sweet that it's like eating a tube of cream.

The prices are very high, as may be expected. The service is very poor. It can take 10 minutes to get a waiter's attention even when they are 5 meters away. There is no chance for a Michellin star with such service.

We showed up on time and dressed up for our 9pm reservation. We sat down and ordered our water and nice wine. We had been eating all day so we decided on eating dessert. The waitress looks at us and says "oh no this is a restaurant you have to order food." We expressed that we were ordering food, the overpriced cake that was on the menu. She took our menu and read the word "osteria" back to us and explained that it was a restaurant and not a cafe. She said that people call and reserve ahead for a chance to eat here. She even showed us the reservation book that was full of highlighted names. (It should be noted that the restaurant only had one other family eating and a lot of empty chairs.) We asked for the manager and she went and came back and told us that they would serve us only dessert "just this once." The manager would not look at me in my eyes. At that point we were fed up and and decided to leave. The waitress rolled her eyes at us and we left. My tip, don't come if you want to be treated with any shred of dignity.

From the first taste of the watermelon and rose maguerita to the last; the signature Charley Marley chocolate delight this Osteria presented a degustation that was light, simple and imaginative. In a town where pasta, pizza and stews are staples this was a refreshing change.
We had the degustation: tuna tartare, quinoa salad, steamed bun with pork belly, creamy tortellini, beef tongue and the Charley Marley.
The service, except for a slip up in wine service, was attentive and careful.
A great setting outside the Gucci Garden in the Piazza Signoria. The day was hot and fans spread gentle cooling mists across the table.
The cost while expensive was great value for the money. I highly recommend the experience and would return in a trice except I live 12000kms away!

Pros: Lovely outdoor dining right in the heart of town, good to people watch while dining. Excellent, attentive service. Absolutely love the bouillabaisse with seafood and charley marley dessert!

Cons: Expected more in the quality and taste of food, especially when it was by Massimo Bottura. Some of the dishes doesn't justify the cost at all.

Such an amazing meal - everything was so fresh and full of flavor from the amuse bouche to the extraordinary dessert. In fact, we loved our dinner so much, we returned the next day for lunch to try more things on the menu! Favorites are the caesar salad, the tortellini, the steamed bun, the burger and the charley marley dessert. The service could not be better - everyone is so nice and professional. It is a stand out in a city full of amazing food!
