We were a group of 20+ women who were attending an international dragon boat regatta and who stayed at this hotel for a week in July. The staff could not have been more accommodating. I wouldn't call us demanding but we certainly had requests and LOTS of questions, all of which were answered professionally and with a smile. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast each morning was wonderful - especially the fresh orange juice and the coffee. They even opened the breakfast room early to accommodate an early start on our second day of racing. The location was perfect, we were able to walk to almost everything and the hotel itself abounded with old world charm.

This place was wonderful. All we needed was a clean place to stay and a good breakfast. This hotel was perfect. Room was simple and fit 3 adults. The breakfast was amazing, a full spread including fresh scrambled eggs. Best breakfast of our whole trip.

Let me start by saying that the hotel is a ok hotel and you can easily stay there, but be aware of the following:

1. The hotel may well be a 4 star hotel, but fact is that it has to be no more then 3 stars

2. The breakfast is nothing special and there is not enough cutlery to take the different items from the buffet, which is not hygienic.

3. The rooms generally lack maintenance since all the walls in our room were clearly damaged from other guests. - This is usually happening, but it usually gets remedied on a regular basis. However, this can not be the case here as there were many damage to all walls ect.

4. The cleaning is not good enough - the top half of our wall by the bed was filled with a thick layer of dust (I had written "clean me" in the dust on our first night and 3 nights later it is still there) which also applies to lamps, behind the bedside tables, under the bed, etc. .

5. Through out our stay we have had alot of ants in the room, but we took care of the small amount. But at our last night the floor was covered in ants, so I went to the reception to have them help but all the receptionist could do was to give me some ant poision and a towel to do it myself??? I have never had that kind of "service" anywere else in the world.

6. They sell their rooms as soundproof - but that isn't the case.

7. Deluxe rooms with garden view - don 't wast your money - our window faced a bush and that was our garden view.

Having said the above, it should also be said that the staff were very friendly, their parking service works perfect and the hotel itself is the epitome of Florence.

I'm sure there are far better hotels in Florence and I would try another one, if I come back to Florence

The hotel is conveniently located, most of the attractions are in a walking distance. The room was comfortable for our family (4 members). The property is well maintained with a very helpful staff (Judith and Ricardo).

The hotel was beautiful, especially the reception area and along the corridors. However, the room we were in was absolutely tiny! There was a large bed, then a TV directly in front. Behind this was the shower and the bathroom was directly across from that. This meant that if someone walked out of the bathroom they were looking straight into the clear doored shower. Not a disaster but not a recommend for couples who haven't been together long/aren't fully comfortable with that. The temperatures were very up and down in the room - even though we hadn't changed the air conditioning it would get incredibly cold at night and we would have to get up to change it.

Despite limited space to do anything other than sleep - we were out for much of the day so this didn't present huge problems. The rooms were generally clean and toiletries were replenished daily. Breakfast was standard continental style but could have been restocked significantly more regularly. There was also a huge problem with pigeons coming on to the tables on the terrace, however, this is somewhat unavoidable.

Free icelollies at the reception was a nice touch and everyone we spoke to in terms of front of house staff were polite and very friendly. There was a couple of computers, a printer/scanner etc. so all nice little touches that made life a bit easier if you had tickets to print/seats to book etc.

Overall would recommend but would hope that some of the rooms were slightly bigger. Our view was also of a set of fire escape stairs - think we may have got the duff one.
