First time dining at Cortona Bistrot for us. Have been going to Cortona for many years but this was our first time trying this new restaurant. We loved it and can highly recommend the quality of the menu and the food - the kitchen / chef is refreshingly modern in their take on some classic Tuscan dishes, offering some unexpectedly refined nuances and new takes with classic ingredients. One person in our party had a deliciously different stuffed pasta with ginger while my house made pici amatriciana was honestly some of the tastiest I've had anywhere. The house was manned by a group of fairly young, hip looking Italians who are clearly trying to create something different than the traditional restaurant you find in these parts. Service we had was pleasant and knowledgable about the food and the wine. The food is top notch - truly - but the atmosphere and physical space are probably the only things that might throw some off. Its a small dining area that's been decorated in a somewhat odd hodge podge of furniture and lighting that is either going to feel quirky and cool to you or....just odd. The tables are each different with eclectic seating arrangements. Some are not comfortable. Interior lighting is a bit dim and took a little adjusting after strolling on a warm sunny evening. If you are a couple, there are 2 or 3 tables for two set across the street in a little patio that has gorgeous views over the valley - otherwise all seating is inside. Very few tables so Im assuming in high season it will be essential to book. I had booked us in advance for dining in mid June. All in all - I would definitely dine here again and have no reservations about recommending!
