This hotel, which we stayed in for only one night, is definitely odd. The décor is heavy and dark and, yes, the enclosed balcony is unique in my experience. But the breakfast terrace was fabulous, the breakfast good, the service good and the location excellent. I would have given it 4 starts, but the a/c wasn't terribly effective - a rather old system. It's probably not 4n starts, as others have said, but for the price and everything else, I would recommend it. And we found Catania itself rather fine, if decayed.

Ok, so stayed here three nights last week and the terrace was closed one night due to exceptional circumstances..... our last night on Sicily tonight, we are here again, this time booked in to a suite (Norma, nice suite!) But again the terrace is shut, due to exceptional circumstances! Really not a way to treat paying guests!

I'm not sure why this hotel had quite a good review score! Our experience was that nothing was really as advertised, and the pictures are misleading.
Be careful- the facilities are not always available as advertised. We arrived to be told that there was no access to the roof terrace and hot tub. Apparently it can be reserved for private use so we couldn't use it the night we were there.
The customer service is dreadful. We complained about the lack of terrace and were met with a wall of hostility and refusal to let us speak to a manager.
We'd booked a superior room. The advertised picture of a superior room is one with marble floors and a 4 poster bed. It's advertised with a city view. What we actually got was a very dark, scruffy room which just happened to be a bit bigger than other rooms.
There was a small terrace but one that had a large grey wall do you couldn't see out. My 6ft boyfriend standing on a chair couldn't see over the wall.
We had one window in the room. It was basically a porthole- circular window about 1 foot diameter. The carpets were dirty and everything was really dated.
Its a shame, and to be honest this could have been rescued with good customer service offering a discount or bottle of wine to apologise but the worst thing about our experience was the staff! So aggressive and confrontational. They argued that we shouldn't expect the advertised facilities and should just be happy we have a room. After a lot of shouting they agreed to comp us the parking and city tax.

We stayed 3 nights in a superior double room with balcony on the third floor. The balcony was totally enclosed so no view whatsoever - basically it is just a hole in the roof. The only window in the room was a port hole window
The entire corridor carpet was badly stained as was the old bedroom carpet. The room was decorated in dark colours and was downright depressing.
The bathroom was ancient.
You can’t control the air con temp, this has to requested at reception.
The best thing about this hotel is the location to the Doumo Piazza and the breakfasts.
We were pleased to leave.

Had a really lovely stay with my parter for a weekend. The terrace at the top was lovely and secluded. Faisal’s service was wonderful- he was by far the most genuine and friendly person we met in Catania.
