A truly unique way to experience the beauty of Venice by kayaking. You will get to traverse some of the less frequented areas of Venice and travel down canals (technically, 'Rio', since only the major waterways are 'Canals') that few visitors well ever set eyes on. We took an evening excursion (5-7 pm), which was perfect: nice sunlight, and traffic on the Grand Canal not too busy. We crossed it several times without difficulty.
Our group was small (just 4 total) plus Nico, our guide, so navigating was not difficult. Nico is super friendly and passionate about preserving Venice for future generations to enjoy. After the conclusion of the kayak excursion, he gave us a lot of tips on places in Venice to visit that are off the beaten path and contemporary art museums besides the Guggenheim.
> Clothing: Wear swim trunks and quick dry clothing - you will get wet, not from any boat waves, but because water drips from the paddles as you negotiate some narrow canals.
> Footwear: we took off our shoes and kayaked barefoot. Keens would also do fine. Your shoes and socks will get wet.
> They do have a small water-proof bag if you feel the need to bring anything (small) with you while you kayak. Better yet, bring a water-proof camera.
