This spacious square is just off the main tourist route to and from the Rialto Bridge. But surprisingly, almost no tourists bother to visit this square; the only tourists I spotted crossed Campo San Polo with their trolleys on their way to the hotel. On this square children play, while their grandparents sit and read a magazine. During the Venice film festival, a open air cinema will be built on Campo San Polo. At the back of the square, a restaurant annex beer cafe offers a nice outdoor sit-down area. If you are unhurried, sit down on Campo San Polo for a while.

You will find nice palazzi on this busy place. In the former times there took place religious festivals, bull fights and theater performances. Today in the summer times it serves as an open-air cinema. Until the year of 1761 on the east side led a canal along, the course of which can still be clearly recognized by the tortuous line of the palazzi. Special interesting are the Palazzi Soranzo, two gothic city houses and the Palazzo Corner Mocenigo del century 16. The San Polo church you will find offside of the place with view to the Rio di San Polo.

The only outdoor venue for the Venice Film Festival, the sound, screen registration and sightlines are , good for a sunny, late summer evening....Venice cinefiles crowd the square early to line up for tickets, then get drinks or dinner while waiting for the film to begin. We felt so lucky again to be staying right on Campo San Polo...

This beautiful campo has an open air cinema in the summer and an ice rink in the winter! It is always a fun place to be with places to eat- the pizza place at the top corner is especially good.
