First of all, choosing this hotel took a ton of research for me. There was the Danieli, their sister property also part of SPG's Luxury Collection. And then we also compared it to the Bauer property. All I have to say is location, location, location... oh and the views!!! This hotel is almost directly across the Santa Maria della Salute Church of the best part of the Grand Canal... google it!!! This is completely opposite of what the Rialto Bridge area offers... it's not a touristy spot, it's much cleaner, less crowded, and classier. Rialto Bridge was so disappointing to us in comparison to the atmosphere of this side of Venice. It's a short walk to the Ponte dell'Accademia bridge where we watched the sunset from (google this too). We stayed in a Landmark Grand Canal room which guarantees you a room overlooking the Grand Canal with breathtaking views of the church and the gondolas. Luxury at its best... our room had it all, from the marble bathrooms, to the opulent chandelier. The finishes and the quality of the furnishings made us feel like royalty. The terrace where we had breakfast, lunch, and romantic dinners during our stay was the perfect Venetian atmosphere. Watching the sunset, the gondolas go by, the church, everything was just perfect! We never wanted to leave the hotel. There is one thing I would like for management to address that could spoil one's stay: it's the rude older men at concierge! They need younger, more polite, perhaps female representatives who will come across gentle and customer service oriented. The men currently there are dry and snobby, and NOT helpful at all. The biggest shortcoming of this hotel. Management, please address this issue as I have read other reviews on TripAdvisor about them... I didn't actually think I'd run into the same issue but I did... so there's obviously a trend. And for the nightly rate the hotel charges, the concierge should be way better.

Room Tip: Get a Landmark Room!

We were here end of May. This hotel went above and beyond any stay we have ever had. It was the perfect end to an already amazing vacation.

The room has high ceilings, and provided a spacious feel, even though the room wasn't all that big. The size is adequate though. Everything from the sheets, to the chandelier was top notch quality. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was floor to ceiling marble. Amazing shower head and luxurious toiletries. What more can you ask for?

The Gritti is located right on the grand canal, occupying one most prestigious address. Can't beat the location. The restaurant was delicious! I can't fault them for anything. Lastly, the service. The hotel went above and beyond to take care of everything. It was the most pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Grand canal room 111.

The most beautiful hotel in Venice I have visited. What started off as a walk by drink in the Riva lounge ended up being 4 visits in 2 days and a meal on our last night. Just on the Grand Canal this property offers luxury, first class service, Bellini’s that put Harry’s bar to shame and a little slice of heaven off the well beaten tourist track. Yes it is very expensive, however, if you’re on holiday treat yourself. Having enjoyed this location so much we booked our last evening meal here, 8 people in the restaurant on the Grand Canal - what a treat and the maître d'hôtel who had seen us over the 2 day period made a special effort and dressed the table to perfection. The food was just delicious and the sommelier helpful with the local Veneto wines. A real treat and not for the short in wallet but hey - you only live once.

Beautiful room (211) facing the grand canal. Expensive but you definitely get what you pay for!

Staff at reception and restaurant/bar very helpful and pleasant, somewhat less helpful at concierge depending on who attended. One was wonderful, the other a little curt.

Breakfast is a good spread eaten on the terrace over the river. The best bit of the whole stay was sitting out on the terrace! There is a gorgeous riva right outside too.

Room Tip: Canal view is worth it for a special trip!
