Owner description: A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the building and its sculptural decoration date from various periods. The interior, with works by artists such as Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, A.Vittoria and Tiepolo, includes vast council chambers, superbly decorated residential apartments, and austere prison cells. Along the facades of the Palace run loggias that overlook St. Mark’s Square and the lagoon. The combined entrance ticket to the St. Mark’s Square Museums grants access to the Doge’s Palace, Museo Correr, Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Monumental Rooms of Biblioteca Marciana.

Unfortunately, we did not do a whole log of research prior to visiting this attraction in St. Mark's square. Fortunately, we had a personal guide who filled us in with the rich and fascinating history of when Venice was literally the center of the western world. Superb craftsmanship and artistry are everywhere and most of the building has been meticulously restored and maintained. The Palace was self-contained as a government unit and you could be tried, found guilty, and sent to jail all in one place!

Comparing with other museums and palaces in roma and in firenze, ticket price is too expensive. So, line is not long. There's no any very famous thing inside. Just luxury ruler's rooms. And many rooms are under reparing. Disappointed.

Beautiful palace but definitely recommend doing this as part of a tour. You will learn so much more and your experience will be enriched. We visited the basilica as well on this tour that we booked with Walking Tours of Italia. It was not overly expensive and our guide Pamela was wonderful.

Our favorite part of Venice! We only allotted ourselves 45 mins but definitely could have used more. The prison and armory were our favorites!!!
