Tucked away just enough that you feel it's special, this charming place has great food, elegant waiters and is laid back enough to be fun. It felt "local" to me, but it's probably No. 7 on the top tourist lists.

I'd go back without a doubt. Marvelous food, ambience and evening.

This is my third trip to Milan and I think I’ve been to this restaurant 5 times now. There’s a reason I keep coming back. Good food and fantastic service in a quiet corner of Milan which is still very central. Love it here!

On a rainy night in Milan, we made our way to this restaurant, which had been recommended by our hotel. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a table in the covered outside area. After perusing the menu, we were told about the specials, and opted to share a large sea bass. All the waiting staff gathered round to watch the chef filleting it for us. As it was going to be a little wait for the fish to be cooked, they suggested we share some very lightly battered squid, which was lovely and tender. It was a memorable meal, accompanied by a bottle of very good Italian wine.

Online Reservation was without any problem. Arriving at Hostaria Borromei we experienced a warm welcome and were guided to a nice table. We ordered Antipasti, prima and secondi piatti, a good wine was recommend by the waiter. The starters had been served after a short time and were very good. Unfortuantely the next course had been called off too early, hence the Pasta was served before we finished the starter. The waiter apologised directly and we showed understanding. From that Point on our good experience changed totally. The former waiter did not Show up any more, all other waiters ingnored us. After Clearing away the second course we waited for more than one hour to the main course. The ossobuco was ok but risotto was not cooked right. No dessert was offered afterwards, even ordering an cafe was difficult and time wasting.
It is most unlikely that we will come again.

Our Hotel the Gran Duca Di York recommended this restaurant to us for dinner last night June 2. Luckily we booked the outside area underneath the vine covered pergola, as by 8pm, this area was ‘booked’ out (they still have an inside area), interestingly when we left neither area was yet to be full. My wife had the squid starter, which turned up to be deep fried, didn’t see that one on the menu - at best average, while I had the prawn starter which was pretty good. For mains she had the Sea Bass fillets, which was good, while I had the Tuna fillets which were dry and not that enjoyable. All this washed down with a nice Chardonnay at $28 Euro, total bill $106 Euro.
