We've had a wonderful week at Lake Como Beach resort and wish we'd booked a longer stay. The resort is very well situated for exploring the lake as well as just relaxing in the sun and Eric is very welcoming and always willing to help. The view was breathtaking, even from our villetta, and the lido and jetty provide easy access to the water for swimming, boating or kayaking. The location was perfect for us as the supermarket and a few bars and restaurants are a short walk away, but we were completely sheltered from the busyness of the area which everyone had warned us about in August. There are lovely walks if you're ok with a bit of a climb and the views are definitely worth it. The villettas are very well equipped and provided all we needed for a family of 4. At first we were a little concerned about our teenagers having only a sleeper couch, but the lakeside position more than compensated and they've both said they'd be very happy to stay there again. We're delighted to have discovered such a beautiful spot and can't wait to return to Lake Como Beach resort.
The resort sits right on the water front at the base of a cliff. Each little villa has wonderful views which I could happily sit and look at all day. In fact on one cold, rainy day that's exactly what we did. There is a lift from the car park down to the resort which unfortunately wasn't working during our stay but Eric, the owner, was more than obliging with carrying our heavy bags.
We did have to plod back up to the top a couple of times to buy groceries but I'm sure Eric would have done that too if we had asked.
The villas are self catering and equipped with all the basics for preparing simple meals. There is a tiny TV and some videos if you can tear yourself away from the lake. An aperitivo with a few picks at sunset usually turns into a late night supper.
There are a few restaurants within walking distance which are good if a little pricey.
The ferry stops two minutes walk away but unfortunately doesn't keep very hospitable hours if you're hoping to use it as your main transport. I really recommend having a car to get around, but be prepared for an interesting approach to the resort and an even more interesting exit as there is a steep gradient right on a corner which will really spin your wheels
We loved this place because the owners couldn't do enough for us. If it's relaxing you want then this is it. Make sure you hire a boat for a couple of hours and get out on the lake.
A hard one to review this ... Eric and Jiselle couldn't have been more helpful from the booking through to the stay. The apartment has a superb view of Lake Como, and easy access to the boat ferry service (not too many ferries stop at Pognana Lario but get the timing right and you're fine).
The one issue is access. You, along with other houses, are at the bottom of a cliff. the road through the village is at the top. To illustrate, from the ferry to the road are 400 stone steps on a steeply sloping upward route. To get to the villa, you drive down a very steep hairpin drive, and park about halfway down the cliff. From there there is a cliff side elevator to get you further down, but there are still about 50 steps and some sloping paths after that to get to the villa itself. Eric will volunteer to help with luggage if he is there (which he often is). Driving back up is an experience, you need to take it at some speed otherwise you can't get round the steep corners. I got the knack by the time we left.
In the villa, which is one room downstairs with small kitchen area, and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs, there is a narrow spiral staircase to get upstairs. Getting myself and our full cases up it when we arrived took a bit of effort.
The villa is perfectly comfortable, if not luxurious, but in that great location you will be spending your time sat outside rather than inside anyway.
Would be 5 stars apart from the access issue, and many thanks to Eric and Jiselle for a great holiday :-)
We visited here earlier in the month and it was a perfect 3 days. Eric was very helpful particularly helping with the fact we had a 5 month old baby. The setting is excellent and the views are dreamy. Fully recommend staying here if you're wanting a self catering trip.
Beautiful property, well equipped and maintained, on the lake shore. Fantastic view.
Communal garden and jetty with kayaks supplied. Good swimming in the lake. Barbecues.
The owners could not be more helpful or friendly, for example will book airport transfers, restaurants, speedboat hire (they come to you).
Local shop, bar. restaurant.
