“Great Location”

We stayed at Casa Zina for a week early May. We booked here because we had our daughter and her partner joining us from London and thought being in a house together would be a great way to catch up.
The location and the view are both outstanding, and the home is very very spacious. The main bedroom with a king bed is off the living room, sectioned off with a sheer curtain. There is a small bathroom, kitchen and another bedroom with 2 single beds on this level, and upstairs is another bedroom with a queen bed and a separate bathroom - perfect for our young ones to be private.
However, there were unfortunately a number of short falls. Importantly, no internet/wifi access. Pretty important for communication.
"Self catering" was made difficult as the oven did not work, to boil water for tea we used a saucepan - a jug would have been handy. No toaster and as the oven did not work, no griller to toast. And no microwave, so cooking became pretty impossible. And this was advertised as self catering. However, the resident owner Serena was most apologetic and did try to fix things. But it was quite inconvenient.
The beds were very comfortable, however being early May it was still cold and the only blankets or warm bedding consisted of 2 light mohair throws which were not sufficient to keep us warm.
Upstairs there is a large living area, another bedroom, a small bathroom and a room with a washing machine. No dryer, which would have been handy in the cold weather we experienced. No cupboards to unpack clothes in the upstairs bedroom. There is a cupboard in the room with the washing machine but it was full of their own linen and other personal things.
The electrics in the property were really questionable. In the upstairs bathroom, if you wanted to use the hair dryer, you had to turn off the light/fan or the powerboard would trip. To use the dishwasher, you had to turn everything else off on the powerboard.
I believe this is early days for the family to rent out this property, so maybe they will take my comments as constructive. It is an excellent property, and for view and location 10/10.

Thank you for appreciating your stay in Casa Zina and for your precious comments, they have been very constructive for us to make the lovely House more invinting and homely.
We have solved the problem with electrics, so now everything works great, but our Guests must be aware that in every house in Italy you can never use washing machine + oven + dishwasher at the same moment, because electricity may come off.
For our Guests' hair we bought two new hairdryers(electricity won't come off from now on!); For cooking pots and kettles are available; we bought a new microwave + grill oven, and a toaster for great breakfasts; Wanna have a good cup of tea or coffe in the terrace, or in the living room, staring at the beautiful harbour? From now on, it will be easy with the new water boyler! Is it getting cold? No problem: new more blankets are ready to coil you if the climate became fresh. We emptied the cupboard upstairs and stored the clean linen in a dedicated place, so Guests can use also that entire cupboard. We also bought a new wardrobe fot the upper bedroom, and clothes hangers, so now there is more than a wardrobe per room.
Casa Zina, thanks to your advises, is now probably the cosiest Home for a stay in Portofino!!! We hope to host you a next time, and thank you again for choosing Casa Zina!

Dear Kate,
thank you for your review, I'm happy you had a great time in Casa Zina!
Maybe not all are aware that Casa Zina is in the heart of an antique harbour such Portofino. The House was buit in XVIII century, and it is not allowed to modify the planimetry. We renewed the two bathrooms with everything to make them as smart and confortable as possible, with the precious Vietri's ceramics, to mantain the stylish own brand of the House. unfortunately, improving their size is not allowed by law.
The House is for 6 + 2 people. There is a wardrobe in everyone of the three double bedroom, and we put a new more one in the upper double bedroom, so that also the 2 extra Guets -who would sleep in the confortable sofa bed in the upper living room- will have their own cupboard! Clothes hangers have been provided too.
By your own admission, it's true that the slate stairs from Calata Marconi and may be not so easy to come up for everyone, but they were built together with the house, and we cannot change their size. In any case our Guests can enter easily the House from the back entrance on the road (Vico Chiuso).
I hope to meet you next time you will visit Portofino!
