Terrible experience

Review of Albergo Parigi
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Sept 2018
Had an awful experience in this hotel due to the manager's behaviour - the room we booked (a double room with a private ensuite) was not the room we were given (not very nice twin room, shower at the foot of the bed, no private toilet - this room is not even advertised on the travel company's website). I spoke to the manager, who started shoving his phone in my face claiming it was the travel company's fault not his, even though I showed him proof of my exact booking. He was rude, unprofessional and kept insisting that I had to agree with him (I repeatedly told him I did not). I then phoned the travel company to complain, they phoned him to sort the issue out but they got nowhere with him as he kept giving them the wrong reference number apparently. They said he would move a queen bed into the room in the morning but this didn't change the fact that we were in a room which was not very nice with no private toilet (which is what we had paid for) - I was so tired and upset by this point that I let it go. Then, overnight I received 4 separate messages from the hotel manager through the travel company - all claiming that I was lying about the room and that I could go and stay in another hotel if I didn't like his. I was shocked by this. The tone of these messages was not pleasant, even more so because we were staying in his hotel and he was clearly a nasty, dishonest individual - we felt very unsettled by his behaviour. I phoned the travel company again to inform them and to forward the messages to them. They phoned the manager again. I was then told by the travel company that they would try to find us another hotel. While waiting for this to happen, I received an email from the travel company stating that the hotel had just told them that they had overbooked and that they no longer had room for us(!) - it was really absurd. The travel company thankfully quickly relocated us to a lovely hotel at no extra cost. Please avoid this hotel - don't put yourself through what we went through. The manager's behaviour was shocking and from other reviews I have read on the travel company's website, this is not the first time he has behaved like this.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my girlfriend the first morning i was leaving the hotel for a short time and said to the man on reception that my girlfriend was in the room and resting and we did not require the room to be cleaned and not to disturb her he said it was no problem within a few minutes of me leaving he was knocking at the door which made my girlfriend so scared she had to leave the hotel herself when I came back i had to console her. When we were checking out we was told we would have to pay €6 city tax i had no problem with this and asked for a receipt he then went crazy and said no receipt you pay city tax this upset my girlfriend and i then said ok and then left the money on the counter he then wouldn't let us leave and said he called the police i then started to record a video showing him keeping us there against out will and he attacked me a truly nasty person who should not be allowed to run a hotel a horrible experience for me and my girlfriend

Room tip: Avoid at all costs

To these people nothing to say, we had to call the police for various problems had and make a complaint to them that it will be reached even in their country

Clean, basic room close to the train station and in walking distance to all the must-sees... Best value for the money, and the host is lovely and very accommodating. Secure building, with 24-hour concierge...

NOTE: As with many central locations the area around the hotel can be a little dodgy, especially at night.

Room tip: We stayed in the room behind reception (Room 7)... Great WiFi, but could get a little loud...

I visited the Parigi Hotel with my girlfriend when we needed unexpetendly a roof over our heads on a hiking trip. Very freindly staff and clean, comfortable, well equiped rooms. The close proximity to the station and city center is an extra plus. The best Hotel I saw in the price range in Genua by far.

The Albergo Parigi is conveniently located close to Genoa's main railway station. I was not worried about my safety, though the area seems a bit lonely at night though lively during the day. The room I had was very simple with well-worn furnishings, but also very clean, equipped with television, fridge, coffee maker and a continental breakfast delivered to your door. (There are a number of small food stores on the same street if you want to prepare picnic meals.) The staff are very friendly and helpful: I arrived early on the morning of my check-in, and was served breakfast, even though I wasn't entitled to it. The hotel has a night porter, so it is possible to gain access to the lobby, even if the reception desk is not yet open. This is definitely not a luxury establishment, but it is a good choice if you are looking for a bed in a respectable hotel at an economical rate. Make sure to print out a map, Genoa's layout can be confusing to the first-time visitor.
