The Albergo Parigi is conveniently located close to Genoa's main railway station. I was not worried about my safety, though the area seems a bit lonely at night though lively during the day. The room I had was very simple with well-worn furnishings, but also very clean, equipped with television, fridge, coffee maker and a continental breakfast delivered to your door. (There are a number of small food stores on the same street if you want to prepare picnic meals.) The staff are very friendly and helpful: I arrived early on the morning of my check-in, and was served breakfast, even though I wasn't entitled to it. The hotel has a night porter, so it is possible to gain access to the lobby, even if the reception desk is not yet open. This is definitely not a luxury establishment, but it is a good choice if you are looking for a bed in a respectable hotel at an economical rate. Make sure to print out a map, Genoa's layout can be confusing to the first-time visitor.
