As all the reviews say, this is the most unbelieveable view in CT. Pretty much as close to the sea as you can be. Wonderful to sit on the terrace with a bottle of Tuscan wine, afternoon or evening. David is an extremely helpful host, very responsive, perfect english and lots of good tips. But I'm just confirming what's already written, so thought I would add some tips:
Tip 1: Most of the easier trails are closed - so unless you are a hardcore hiker, the best way to see CT from Riomaggiore is take an early ferry from Rio all the way to MonteRosso, the furthest village. (The ferry is a 3 minute walk from La Scogliera).
Then take a day to work your way back using the train to ride from town to town. You need a day pass to do this on the train, so the ferry adds an extra 13 Euro, but you get the view of all the towns from the - well worth it. Makes for a lovely day that you can do at your own pace and plenty of walking even without the hikes.
Tip 2: We had a long trip, including a wedding, so were travelling reasonably heavy - and this is a LONG way to carry your bags. If you parked at the top, there is a great bag service that can take your bags up to your car in the lot. This guy has a little truck, but to get the bags to the truck he puts a large suitcase on his shoulder and the other in his hand and away he goes - had to be seen to be believed. 5 Euros a bag but we thought worth it with our big bags. David can book for you.
