Visiting food markets is a favorite vacation activity for us and the Drapperie is right in the heart of Bologna's old town shopping area. It's very close to Piazza Maggiore and the basilica. We were there on unusually warm October days and the street cafes around us were hopping. We found a spot with a 5 euro all you can eat buffet and modestly priced wines and enjoyed watching the city's young people mingle. Other guests at the hotel but, with the windows closed, we barely noticed it. Our room was small but pretty and functional. Breakfast (included) was typical for Italy: Cheese and sausage, pastries, cereal. Their breakfast attendant made individual espressos for guests.

This is realistically a nice 3 star right in the heart of the old city in Bologna. In fact you are so in the heart of it the food markets are right outside the front door every morning... the smell of fish is a joy !!!!
Our room was on the top floor with a "view" - debatable what a "room with a view" actually means but there was a view
THe room was extremely basic. The bed was average. There was 2 power points for recharging devices so bring a plugboard !. The en suite bathroom was small and the shower even smaller. Seriously if you are large and rotund you are not getting in there.
BReakfast was dull and boring. Dont expect a fry up !
Front of House staff were extremely helpful and very polite - so extra star for that

THis is not the hilton so if you are looking for that standard go to the hilton. But where it wins big time is its proximity to the city itself. Everything you want is on your doorstep
Quick note : As its very close to markets it gets very noisy early morning so if you like a lie in close the window !

Room tip: Top room was nice but showers are tiny

We enjoyed a two night stay here during the weekend of the Bologna jazz festival.
The hotel is nestled on one of the streets near the piazza Maggiore.
It is a lovely, busy street which is filled with cafes, food and flower shops, yet once you step inside the hotel you hear none of the hustle and bustle from outside.
The hotel is small but our room was a good size with a shower room off it.
The breakfast room/ hall is on the floor above the reception and there was a good selection of fruit, meat, breads etc. The lady who served the tea and coffee was very pleasant and efficient.
My one and only criticism of the hotel was that there were only five tables for breakfast so you sometimes had to wait for a table during busy times.
If we return to Bologna we will definitely stay here again.

The hotel is located up a side street off the main square in front of the Basilica of St Petronius so you have to carry your cases about 200m to it. The rooms are fairly small and old fashioned, as is the whole hotel which is one if it’s charms. The shower is adequate but it took ages for the hot water to come on in ours. Our room had 2 wardrobes of a good size and adequate shelving. The safe is in the wall and extremely secure but not big ie Kindle size, not laptop. Breakfast is all cold and choice is limited. The beds are, again, basic but perfectly comfortable. The rooms overlooking the street were a bit noisy due to the shopkeepers setting up their shops but the double glazing keeps out a lot of noise. The rooms are air conditioned so there is no need to have a window open.
The hotel provides a fine base in the centre which allows you access to all the main sites in easy walking distance.

My daughter and I chose to stay at the Alerbgo delle Drapperie as the reviews were so good, the location is perfect. Staff on reception friendly and helpful. However, our room had a lot of scuff marks on the walls, the toilet seat was all but hanging off. The air conditioning would only go as low as 26.5 which made sleeping very uncomfortable, when we asked at reception they said it was because it was an old building and it was very hot that it wouldn’t go any lower, however, the dial would go as low as we wanted but was obviously on a default to that temperature. One day when we were out for the whole day we returned to discover the cleaner had left the pass key on the outside of our door giving free access to anyone! Fortunately nothing appeared to be missing.
The breakfast was the worse I have ever experienced, very rude staff, dirty table clothes never set out, food, for what it was worth, sometimes there sometimes not, often no clean plates or cutlery. The tea/coffee machine was not self service so it meant going up 2 flights of stairs to get someone to serve, that meant thrusting a mug of hot water at you. One morning I complained about a dirty mug and the girl came across to me rubbing her finger around the inside saying it was just tea stain the dishwasher had not removed! Two of the stairs in the entrance had no fittings on the carpet, completely loose, an accident waiting to happen. I complained at reception about these issues and they waived the city tax from our bill as compensation.

Soon after my return Booking.com requested my review of the hotel which I took time to do, however, up to the time of writing this it has not been published possibly because it was not a favourable one, I feel strongly about this disappointment and wanted it published, I know some of our issues have been mentioned by other guests. Definitely will not stay there again.

Dear rjcarter2018, thanks for the time you spent for your review(s!). This is actually the third. The one of your daugther is just before yours, and the other one is on Booking.com, as you said. We already replied at your commentary on Booking.com the day you have
published it. Every one can read your review and our answer, so we are at least surprised that you said the contrary. Before your feedback there are other reviews, but your one is easy to find, and we also believe that Booking sent you an email to notify our answer to your opinion. So if you truly haven't see your first review and our reply, we warmly suggest you to scroll down the page and check the latest ones.

So we understand that you really wanted to express your disappointment and it’s pretty clear that all the efforts of our staff to try to help you during your stay, in order to give you support, information and explanations, and to try to solve any problem weren't enough for you. It’s evident that we didn't succeed. We could not give you a beautiful memory of your stay in Bologna as we really would to. And we are very sorry for that.

We truly value all the opinions of our customers. Every feedback is important to us, and we give particular attention to the bad ones, because our purpose and our achivement is to assure to every guest the best experience of our hospitality, leaving a lovely memory of the stay. Even if it would be allowed, we have no reason to omit or hide any kind of commentary. A good discussion is the best way to understand people and ourselwes, in relation to the important role that we have as hosts, and it gives us the possibility to grow and improve.

So we think that is not necessary to reply widely with all the details, examining again all the questions as we did in the first answer and explaining that we tried our best to deal the situation directly, to give you satisfaction and serenity, because now, in front of your anger, it’s evident that everything we can say would not work.

The only way for us to make you change your opinion and your consinderation about our work, that we always do with passion and dedication, is hoping to have the opportunity to welcome you again at our hotel and give you a concrete demostration of what we really are. And, as many other guests can confirm with their public opinions, we are sure that we can do it.
