Among too many "fusion" or AYCE "restaurants" I found a very good place in Rome. Very nice owner who guided me into a dinner NOT based on sushi NOR on tempura. I will come back very soon. Keep on

I ate at this restaurant 20 years ago and had a real good experience: real Japanese cuisine, fresh fish. After seeing so many good review I decided to go there for my 17 year marriage celebration. My aim was: eat a lot of sushi and shashimi.

The ambiance was the same, except for a kind of modern hip hop music played by a terrible device that made you hear only sort of broken drum.

We ordered 1 sushi of 7 pieces and a raw fish shashimi ricebowl and tempura. I had intention to spend 100 Euro or more if the fish was good. The sushi came out first and I was immediately so disappointed, there were 2 pieces with tuna fish which were dry and tasteless, 2 sushi with salmon (all farm-raised) and 3 with orata. All the fishes were dry on the surface and had no taste. Certainly these fishes must be frozen and warmed up by microwave or it was dried out from exposure.
Then came the rice bowl topped with same kind of fish that cost Euro 24, and which was not better than the sushi.
I can understand that tuna fish is not Mediterranean and could cost a lot to buy and keep in a small restaurant, but then Aiuchi San has no others to offer except farm raised salmon, dry orata, and some frozen octopus.

The most terrible thing was the rice: overcooked that reduced to a paste that stick to my teeth???? I cannot believe a well-known Japanese restaurant served this kind of rice???? would it be served in my house, i would make another pot to offer to my guess instead of offering this kind of rice, without shame?

I'm an Asian woman who ate Sushi often in the US, vietnam, china and Japan...so I know what I'm talking about. How can I give this restaurant any stars?

Adding to the disappointment was when I paid the bill, the owner Aiuchi made no attempt to give me any official receit. I had to pay cash, he did not ring the cash machine...and on the menu it was written that they do not accept credit card or check???? so the authority can't have no trace....And think of this business that has been here years without paying any income tax....

If you want to eat real sushi with fresh fish in a restaurant that has some decency Hamasei at Spanish step is the one.

Buonasera Luna,

Have you ever tried the original Japanese cuisine?
I've been there with my gf, booked the table by email (I should have done it through FB!) and, from the moment we got in until the moment we left, we were absolutely blown away. Aiuchi san is such a fantastic host, friendly, informative, prepared and never invasive. Follow all his recommendations and you'll have the perfect dinner. I lived in Japan for quite a while, and finding a place in Rome where the true flavors of Japan are evoked is a seriously positive factor. I was surprise of how the Japanese cusine is reflected in the Western world just as sushi: not at Bishoku. Here you can find the full range (home-made, freshly cooked) of Japanese cuisine: ramen, soups, appetizers, soba, sushi, sashimi and much more. Great wine/sake selection too!
The night we arrived we were all by ourselves in the local (it was a random weekday), but honestly I wouldn't have noticed anyone but that amazing food anyway.
Have you ever tried the original Japanese cuisine? I bet you didn't. Now you know where you can find it.

One of the best Japanese restaurants I ever been to in Italy. I personally met the chef and his cuisine is 100% original japanese. Prices more than fair for the excellent food quality.

Friends had recommended us this address that we would never have found otherwise. This small restaurant is out of centre, but easily reachable with a taxi. In a very simply decorated interior, we were astonished by a very refined Japanese cuisine. We had a succulent menu including small traditional appetizers, yakitori, ramen and sushi. Excellent value for money!
