It is the local Italian restaurant you’ve been searching for. 90% or more locals. Food is very good and extremely large portions. We had too much food! Appropriate to order ONE SMALL pasta plate to share amongst 2-3 people first course, then maybe one second course to share amongst two people, or two second courses to share amongst 3 people. If in doubt ask the server...we didn’t ask, but we should have. Good wine list, priced reasonably also. With 30EUR wine, our total for two was 76EUR and we took out three doggie bags.
The servers, hostess, and so on are very welcoming and friendly.
So yes, it is the quintessential place you’ve been seeking but never found yet. Must go here. And as you walk over, passing the string of tourist restaurants on the way there, you may start to get worried...but you will go around a couple more corners into the quiet backstreets to find this restaurant, so don’t worry.
Best things we had: cabonara excellent and a bit unusual style with more visible egg in it, and huge! Meatballs (polpetti) were the best meatballs of my life so far. Risotto with shrimp was wonderfully flavored.
The chef (a portly gentleman) came out of the kitchen a few times to look in the restaurant and he got some raucous applause for his food.
In summary, it is a 5 out of 5 stars on all metrics of Service, Food, and Value! LOVE this place and I WILL go back on any visit to Rome. I classified it as Mid-Range, but on prices alone, you could almost classify as Cheap Eats (but I think that would be misleading for people).
Note: It fills up and must be booked several days or a week ahead at least.
