“Nice apartment but 87 steep steps to reach it”
Reviewed 27 September 2011 for a stay in September 2011

My wife and I recently rented the one bedroom apartment for a one week stay in Rome and we did experience a whole range of problems. Firstly on arrivel there was no one at the apartment to meet us and it took many phone calls and some considerable time to gain access to the apartment. On the day that wearrived the weather in Rome was humid and 36 centigrade and hiking our suitcases up the 87 step access to the apartment left us totally soaked in pespiration and ready for a cold drink. Unfortunately the refrigerator in the apartmnent was broken so no cold drinks ! Then the promised wifi internet connection did not work and then in the evening we lost all power to the apartment and were just looking for a hotel to move into when Francesco the owner remembered a second electrical fuse box that a previous owner had fitted in a kitchen cupboard and we had power again, thank goodness.

So quite a lot of initial problems, but the owner, Francesco, was extremely helpful and did manage to solve all the problems. However, it would have been better not to have the problems in the first place.

The following are issues we had with the apartment. Being so close to Piazza Navona there was street noise until around midnight and further noise from the apartment next door as there is very little sound insulation between apartments. In the bathroom the toilet is squashed so far into the corner that the toilet seat is held up by a chain fastened to the wall that one has to attach to the seat, the shower screen needs replacing and the shower tiles and grout are baddly affected by black mould.

The apartment itself is stylish in design has a small but well equiped kitchenette which is fitted with a full electric oven with gas hob, microwave and coffee maker. The lounge room is well equiped with a tiny TV set, large radio and has interesting views over the roof of the surrounding area. The bedroom is accessed by a narrow set of stairs and is suitably spacious but has a low ceiling and exposed wooden beams that we kept bumping our heads on.

The apartment is well located in the heart of the old town of Rome and only five minutes from Piazza Navona, twenty minutes from the Vatican Museum and has two reasonably sized supermarkets within ten minutes walk and a great internet cafe only five minutes away at the bottom left of the Piazza Navona.

This is quite a nice little apartment even though it has its issues, but the 87 steps to access thet apartment do need to be taken into account if you are thinking of staying there.

Just a tip for those going to the Vatican Museum. buy your museum tickets on-line before going to the vatican which will save a huge amount of time quequing for tickets at the museum.
