Enter the Palatine hill area by the underutilized entrance on Via di San Gregario and have a peaceful, interesting wander through the green space with some cool ruins and views without the crowds. Particularly nice early in the morning; no lineups to get in and when you’ve enjoyed it, just follow the signage into the forum(where the crowds ARE.)

I was completely blown away by Palantine hill and the Roman forum. So much history. Took us 6 hours to wander through slowly. So worth the money and far better then any of the other sites. Also much more space so you have the luxury of taking your time.

Michelle (pronounced like Mikay Lay) was our tour guide and he did an awesome job. Remember to wear comfortable shoes because there is quite a bit of walking. Our guide showed us all of the areas and gave history of the area.

Part of the forum cost to get in. Great views over the rest of the Ancient Roman sites. Use an audio guide - some are free online for the full experience.

I’ve visited the Palatine Hill many years ago. On this trip we were able to spend several hours walking the ground and admiring the magnificent architecture of the Romans. It’s a wonderful experience to walk through an ancient city like this and visit many important buildings as well as an ancient villa which was restored & sits on top of one of the many smaller hills within Palatine Hill. There is a wonderful view looking out from the Villa’s outdoor piazza out to the ancient portion of Palatine Hill & the many ruins.
