This local staple has been here for ages. I was taken by friends who live in the area. Lots of tables outside. The restaurant is well know for its large and generous antipasta table with dozens of dishes to select from. Everything was good. Warm and friendly service, fine food and worth the trip, about 20 minutes by taxi from the Centro historico. EUR 50 per person including wine

In the residential area of Monteverde Vecchio, up on the Gianicolo hill, above the Vatican and Trastevere areas, this is a very welcoming neighbourhood restaurant, with a nice "al fresco" set up, during the summer months, where even on the hottest days, when the center of Rome is stifling, Il Cortile is positioned on a westerly hill that takes in the Roman "Ponentino" breeze in the evenings, making it worth the ride off the beaten tourist track. In fact, it is a favorite among the locals. Take the time to see the spectacular view of Rome just in front of the San Paolo fountain or up at piazza Garibaldi on the Gianicolo aand stay in the neighborhood for dinner at this restaurant.
Fresh, seasonal ingredients, with on the spot preparation, make their menu choices delicious and they have a good wine list. I recommend the antipasti buffet with a wide choice of vegetables, cooked in a variety of creative ways, from grilled to fried to breaded to baked and leave room for one of their amazing desserts (they have a specialized Patisserie chef). The seafood is fresh and changes everyday, on the basis of the fresh catch of the day. Spectacular homemade fettuccine or tagliolini with sauces spanning from "cacio e pepe" to truffles or lobster, according to the season. It's best to make reservations on the weekends, because it fills up quickly. We have been living in Rome, in this area, for over 5 yrs and have gone often with family or friends and have always had a memorable experience that keeps us wanting to come back! Simone, the owner, takes great pride in his work and gives a family welcome to all his customers, not only the large number of "regulars" like us.

This is a very typical neighborhood restaurant where the owner knows half of the customers by name. The service is attentive, tastes are great, The open buffet offers lots of vegetables, but also frittata. Meets are particularly good. Potatoes made from fresh. It usually is crowded and space is at premium and can be noisy. So it is not for a romantic occasion, but for friends and family. Every time in Rome, we make sure to visit at least once.

Il Cortile is our preferred ristorante in Rome, we have been visiting this place for many years whenever we are in Rome. The “Antipasto al buffet” has a very large choice and is of excellent quality, always fresh prepared. You will find many typical, although maybe less known abroad, menu items from the “cucina Romana” like “Trippa alla romana” or “Coda alla Vaccinara”, but also a vast choice of better known dishes of Italian Cuisine, all prepared to perfection. As a dessert, of which there is a great choice, we recommend the backed pears, or even a simple crème caramel, which with its sweet-bitter, syrupy sauce is excellent.

Wait forever for our food, never got our appetizer and waiter couldn't be bothered to come to our table. I thought the food we got was pretty gross.
