Having just left this trattoria we felt compelled to quickly drop our review on here.
If you check out our other reviews you will see we very rarely give poor reviews and visit a variety of different places.
We looked forward to trying out this trattoria, a 10 year old guide book given to us by my wife’s parents before our trip to Italy had first alerted us to it, a check on TA whilst lying by the pool in Sorrento gave great reviews and then by luck it was located 100 metres from our accommodation in Pompei, it was as if the stars were aligned.
Well, maybe not!
On entering around 9:30pm, not late for dinner in Italy, we were surprised at the lack of diners. We were met by a surly teenager who pointed at a table and let us sit ourselves, not the sparkling Italian welcome we had anticipated.
The owner came to take a drinks order, we presume he was the waiter/owner mentioned in numerous other posts who clearly had left his personality at home for the evening.
A request for one glass of white and a glass of red was met with an argumentative statement that a bottle was only €6, we stuck with a glass each which on tasting was a good choice.
He then mentioned that he was just closing the kitchen as they were having a family party. We did swither, should we stay or go but stuck with it.
2 pasta dishes were ordered, delivered and half eaten in 30 minutes.
No member of staff came near us or the other handful of other diners.
We asked for the bill and without prompting from us the service charge was removed and another couple of euros was offered as a discount from the owner who clearly realised the service had been very poor.
If this was a restaurant in our local area we would never return, from reading other reviews it’s clear we have caught them at the wrong time but this doesn’t detract from a ruined evening for us.
