Owner description: The Gaiola Underwater Park is a Marine Protected Area established in 2002 along the Posillipo coast, in the northwestern Gulf of Naples. The Park owes its singularity to the fusion of volcanological, biological and archaeological aspects inserted in one of the most attractive coastal landscape in the Gulf. Many ancient roman remains (I Century b.C.) lie underwater because of a geological phenomenon (bradyseism). It’s possible to visit it by glass-bottom boat, snorkeling and diving tours.

There are no real city beaches in central Naples, so if you're done with swimming in the harbour between the dirt and rats, La Gaiola is one of the few nice options when you want to escape the summer heat. It's possible to reach it by bus, but as public transportation in Naples is rather unreliable (as I found out myself) it can take you a long time to get there. If you're not on a very tight budget, it might be a good idea to get a taxi or rent a moped. The 'beach' itself is tiny (don't expect to be able to lie down), but free and relatively clean for Naples standards. And the views are stunning!

It is not much comfortable cause there are just rocks but the water is clean and that is important. You can reach it on foot from the bus station Discesa Coroglio. There is a part of the "beach" before the protected area itself where you can eat, drink.. everything, just plase be clean. In the protected area is the number of people limited. Prepare you ID.

Our family of 4 went snorkeling while in Naples. We had a great time. If you go expecting scenes for "Atlantis" where everything is crisp and clean you will be disappointed. Much is covered with plants and soil. The tour was informative and fun. My only wish would have been to have 5-10 minutes to freely snorkel in the area once the tour is complete. It’s a fun outing. Let your taxi driver now he can drive to the head of the path! Ours wouldn't because it was a restricted road but taxis are allowed!

One of the most fascinating and mysteries places in Naples. Of a dazzling beauty.
Snorkeling to admire the underwater beauty of the villa of a rich Roman patrician: Pollione. An intricate mechanism of fish tanks, incredible for its modernity

A very beautiful place: crystal clear water and a view of Naples and Vesuvius as you swim.
I would advise to go during the week to avoid crowds.
If you want to drive there, be warned that it isn't an easy drive (is anything in Naples?). The best way would be a scooter.
Whichever way you go, there's quite a few stairs to get to the sea, but it's worth the effort.
