A lovely, old-school European hotel, with perhaps the most beautiful view from our room that we've ever experienced. Also unequaled is the staff, who from first to last were helpful, polite, and kind -- just the most lovely people, we were sad to say goodbye. The hotel’s restaurant, George, was surprisingly good at dinner time, and the restaurant's roof terrace has an even more commanding view of the Bay of Naples. This was especially an asset for New Year's Eve, where we had an almost 360 degree view of the city's endless fireworks display. Special event meals for the holidays were quite good, especially the Christmas Eve dinner. Breakfast was adequate relative to the usual low standard in Italy but lacking in variety compared to other hotels we’ve stayed in. We should also note the hotel did an excellent job with our laundry, returning it same day at the normal two-day rate, and that housekeeping was top-notch (although the room décor and furnishings look a little frayed, so I'm glad to read that they'll be refreshing things soon). Free wifi is also pretty good, which I wasn't expecting in an older hotel.
But any reviewers who describe this as convenient to the city center or the metro are really bragging about their own fitness. You've got to be in great shape to manage the steep walk to just about anything or anywhere. If you have the slightest physical limitations, the location is very isolated and you'll be totally reliant on the taxi queue outside.
