In total, the journey took about three hours. From the Pompeii ruins sites, I took a 10 euro round trip bus to get most of the way up the mountain. They stopped at a little ticket booth where you have to buy a 10 euro ticket to enter the pathway to the top. Once you reach the park entrance at the top, I had about an hour to walk up to the crater and walk halfway around it. If you want to walk up to the absolute peak, you most likely have to pay for a private tour where you can hike up there but you can still get amazing views of the surrounding land and sea if its a clear day.
