We have just returned from a wonderful week at Gerrardo's apartment. We have been to many self-catering places but this one surpassed them all. The views from the large roof terrace are stunning. I could have spent the whole week gazing out to sea with the view of Vesuvius in the distance. However, we crammed a lot into our week and the apartment was very convenient for the railway station. We went by train to Naples, Ercolano and Pompeii. It was a 10 minute walk from Sorrento back to the apartment and I felt relieved to escape the hustle and bustle of the centre. The apartment is in a more residential area and you get the feeling that area is home to Italian families, rather than just tourists. The supermarket was 5 minutes away and we stopped off several times at Monica's for a gelato! The week was made extra special by the care of the owners. Francesco took us to and from the station. Appolina greeted us when we arrived and showed us where everything was. The apartment was immaculately clean and well equipped. There were ingredients in the cupboard and Appolina gave us some wonderful home grown fruit and veg plus some home made limoncello - what more could you ask for!! Thank you so much - we would love to return one day!!
We have just spent a week at this spacious and comfortable flat. It's on the fifth floor but there is a lift. It has everything you might need including one of the best equipped kitchens I have ever come across in a holiday rental. It is in a quiet area, about five to seven minutes walk from the busy and noisy centre of Sorrento, and we were never disturbed by noise at night. The beds were supremely comfortable (although actually if you are a party of five and need to use the pull out bed, as we did, this was slightly smaller and harder than the others unfortunately). The air con was highly effective to cool the flat down quickly when we got back in the evenings. There is a lovely verandah with a great view of Vesuvius across the bay and the mountains behind Sorrento--sadly, we were so busy every day that I felt I didn't spend enough time out there! There is no living room as such but with the wonderful weather you could sit out on the verandah late in the evenings chatting. There is a supermarket about two minutes away, also a pizzeria (very good) and patisserie (also excellent). During our stay, we visited the crater of Vesuvius, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Capri, and walked the Path of the Gods into Positano. One of the best aspects of the apartment is the lovely local produce that Francesco and Apollonia (Gerardo's parents) left for us--eggs and oranges that they grew themselves, home-made limoncello and bottled tomatoes. Francesco was also very understanding when we stupidly managed to lock ourselves out. They also gave us a lift from and back to the station. If I went back to Sorrento, I would definitely stay here again--a perfect base for the whole area.
Wow! Such a beautiful view from the apartment that we had take away....at home. The owners couldn't do enough for us and the apartment had everything we needed. Perfect.
Sorrento is always a great place to visit and this apartment was well sited for the town centre. You need strong legs though as there are some 60 steps from the road level up to the building! Thank goodness there was a lift to the fifth floor or we would have had to sleep in the car park
Gerado's parents were welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The apartment lacks a comfortable sitting room as this seems to be used for storage and is unavailable. With good weather, this s not a problem as one spends time on the roof terrace looking at the fantastic view of Vesuvius looming over the bay of Naples.
A short stroll down the main road brings you to Tasso Square where everything happens! Bar Ercolano is the best spot for watching the world go by and the staff are fantastic and helpful.
The nearby side streets of the old town are a maze of shops and restaurants. Many opportunities to buy great leather goods and shirts! Spent too much as usual!
Took the bus to Amalfi this time instead of driving myself. A crowded but less stressful way to see the Amalfi coast road. Last time, my knuckles were white for a week after driving to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and through the Latari mountains.
I recommend the appartment and "Team Gerado"!
