This place is awesome! The staff are super kind, attentive, and will bend over backwards for you and cater to your every need. You can tell that they love this place and want to share that love. The grounds and views are jawdroppingly beautiful. Just enough away from the hubbub of the tourist area too. Breakfast is superb!

Hotel Villa Lara is amazing, hands down.

When my wife and I arrived in Amalfi, we came by ferry from Salerno (take the ferry, don't drive, don't take a bus, don't take a taxi, trust me on this, take the ferry). We had a general idea of where the hotel was (Amalfi basically has one main street that goes up the canyon from the ocean, so you can't get all that lost) but we did miss it the first time. It's back away from the hustle of touristy section, so as you start to walk, you feel like you've missed it. It's really not very far, it just feels like it the first time. After finding the hotel, they buzzed us into a small, non-descript gate. You walked up a few steps and into a walkway covered by trees like a tunnel. From there, you could choose to take the stairs up or the elevator. We were met at the bottom by one of the staff from the hotel who took our suitcases for us and headed straight for the elevator. (One day we decided to walk DOWN the stairs. Only once. That is a LOT of stairs, but being that high up is what gets your those views) They checked us in and walked us up to our room (we booked the junior suite, also called the Aquamarine room). The room was amazing. The Jacuzzi tub was fantastic to enjoy in the evenings with a bottle of wine and the door to our private balcony open letting the cool breeze in. The balcony itself was beyond words. You felt like you were the king (and queen) of the castle. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was adequate, and the room was spacious.
Each morning, the breakfast provided was very good. While not an enormous selection, there was enough to get your day started and still give some variety. Looking out over the rooftops of Amalfi out to the beautiful blue waters of the ocean was something I'll never forget.

But, and I can't stress this enough, the real selling point was the staff. They welcomed us like family, were legitimately interested in our plans for the day and wanted to know how they could help. When we told them we had planned a day trip to Ravello, the immediately ran and got an English tour book all about Ravello and gave it to us to take with us for the day. We were on our honeymoon, and one day we returned to the room to find a small, but incredibly gracious gift for us that had been personalized. It probably only cost them a few Euros (and I prefer not to say what it was as I don't want them to feel obligated to do it for everyone going forward), but it is a souvenir that we treasure as a memory of the amazing stay we had there.
If we ever have a chance to return to Amalfi (and I will make it a point to do so), we still stay at Hotel Villa Lara without hesitation; even if it means rearranging our plans for availability.

Thank you Villa Lara!

Great place to stay, about 10 minutes walk to the centre but away from the crowds. Rooms were quirky and very clean. The staff were very helpful especially with booking and recommending restaurants etc. Our only issue was that the breakfast could be better as we feel it was a bit repetitive. Having said that I would definitely recommend the place for travelers who want to base themselves in Amalfi.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different and equally good.

Quiet, comfortable, friendly... loved it. Not too far but not too close to Centro. Luigi the night manager is a joy. Have a prosecco at Gran Caffe overlooking the sea, eat at Il Canceletto, rent a scooter and ride up to Ravello. Highly recommended.
