Spanish siesta

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Oct 2023
Unless you are well versed in European seasonal availability ( or lack thereof) of goods and services, take care when booking dates here. Mid October and the door of the only local “ supermarket” was literally slammed in my face as it closed until Easter! Resort restaurant closed for the season.
Very limited bus service and even more limited taxis.
Units old and a bit tired, but comfortable and great location ( if you have own transport)
2 staff at reception ( Kione Resorts which you may not know) were very helpful, but generally speaking other staff did not appear to be enjoying their jobs and were not welcoming to guests

I tried to check in on a Saturday (that's the only choice given for check in day) and everything was locked up and all lights off. I tried calling the number several times, but no answer. So I had to get a taxi to the next town and get a hotel room for the weekend. On Monday I got to finally check in and the receptionist said they sent an email with after hours instructions. No I never got an email. No wifi access, and the restaurant has very limited hours.
The beach is absolutely beautiful.

We enjoyed our stay. Front desk was always helpful. The unit was newly renovated and had everything we needed. Bed was comfortable and we were thankful for the heater which worked great. It was off season, so a lot of the restaurants were closed.

Not a great start. Couldn't get keys from the key-box as it wouldn't open. Reception is closed all weekend.

So we called the emergency number and a lad arrived on his bicycle. He tried and couldn't open it. Called his dad who arrived by car. He tried and then went and got some mole-grips. He banged it to open it.

Eventually we went into apartment. We found several (okay 5) live cockroaches in the bedroom and bathroom. I killed them and disposed of them along with the already dead one's corpses outside!

The toilet flush missing the button on top of cistern. It worked but often needed help to stop the water running constantly. Reported to Reception on Monday when we checked in. We also reported the 'roach problem. Men came and fixed the cistern.

The bathroom was a little manky. They could also do with cleaning into the corners of the tiled rooms. That's all of them BTW!

The resort was very quiet. Our apartment on block 5 overlooks the pool which would be a premium spot in summer. Okay in winter.

This end of Alcossebre completely dead. Nothing at all open. Plenty of restaurants but all closed. Nothing open on the resort at all except the laundromat.

It's about a mile into town to the first sign of life. There is a Spar supermarket on the "high street" and a Consum further away from the seafront area. Otherwise a car or maybe e-bike is needed.

Resort very close to the beach and it's a good walk to town or on the boardwalks. These are really good and well maintained.

If you have a dog they charge €7 a night. Given that you get cockroaches for free maybe this needs re-evaluating in November and December.

With a little bit of care, the cleaning and general tidy up this place could be really nice.

It takes a bit to get there from Valencia if you don't have a car, (over an hour by taxi), but once there, it is beautiful.

The resort itself, the grounds, pool, on-site restaurant, were great. The small kitchenette - along with a grocery store around the corner, made breakfast, mid-day meals, and even home cooked dinners an option. The staff, although very helpful, do not speak English. They understand some, but be prepared with a translator app or brush up on your Spanish before you go.(Anna Maria, at reception, was a life saver! )

There were some activities that you could book but not what we were hoping for. I would recommend a car if you wanted to explore the area. We wanted to see near by wineries and a few historical sites, but there was nothing like that offered from the resort and we didn't have a car. And, there 's no car rental there or within walking distance.

The beach across the street, well, its the Mediterranean, so no complaints there!!. Lots of boardwalk to use as well as the beach, for walks.

And the local (within walking distance) restaurants, are a treat. Great food options, wines, fun staff and amazing views. Again, the people usually don't speak English but are more than willing to try and help you out.

Enjoy!

The resort is very nice, adjacent to beautiful beach, highly recomended. We had an unplesant experience though, as refurbishment works carried out on the building in front of our balcony for the whole week. Noisy, with dust and water spray blown in the air around. Dirty works - removing paint on the face of the building with pressure jet water. Hence depressing view from the balcony, with prolonged repetitive and tiring noise throughout the whole day, for the whole week. We asked to be relocated on the Saturday evening immediately after checking-in, not knowing and not being informed of the works, but were refused, with explanation that this was impossible. This bad experience dented our otherwise very pleasant stay at Alcossebre
