As a lifelong camper, caravaner and motor-homer I've stayed on innumerable campsites all over the world. These have ranged from the most basic, for example the corner of a farmers field, to the most luxurious fully serviced sites. In this modern age I have come to expect that a campsite should at the very least offer four basic facilities; a fairly level accessible pitch, electrical hook-up, a clean drinking water supply and a hot shower.

At Camping El Portús they can only manage three out of these four BASIC necessities. The pitches are fairly level, there are hook-up facilities and the potable water is drinkable. However, they have consistently failed to provide campers with a hot shower experience in a cosy environment.

Of the four readily available sanitation blocks only two have an inconsistent supply of hot water available to the wash hand basins. Only two offer any form of basic winter heating, while the other two are open to the elements. No sanitary block at El Portús offers a consistently acceptable shower experience. Sites which I have stayed on in Africa, Central and South America have always been able to exceed expectations, why are the El Portús facilities so inadequate? Is no one listening to the daily flood of complaints? Perhaps it is a management issue, who knows?

Sorry El Portús, but after the aforementioned shortcomings have been repeatedly reported by many campers, no tangible improvements have been made. The continued provision of cold showers in cold sanitation blocks is hardly likely to encourage a positive review now is it?

P.S. This review has taken almost an hour to prepare and send due to the sloth pace of the internet connection, could this be why it is known as the InterNOT?

It is the second year we have stayed in the Hacienda flats of this naturist camping. We cannot write about the caravan site, which looks a little bit shabby but the one-room flats of the Hacienda are really nicen especially the 102. From the first and second floor, you have a fantastic view on the bay. Having a swim in blue waters and under the sun in October is just marvellous. Naturism is well respected and I think Spanish people have a very relaxed way of practising naturism. The beach is public and no problem of voyeurism. The restaurant is good, simple but fresh dishes and the waiters are very friendly.
A minor negative point; you will hear "hellos" more often than "holas". Bloody hell, my British friends, we are in Spain! a little effort would please our Spanish Hosts ( Hola is not far from hello, is it?).

Room tip: flats on the first or second floor for the view.

We stayed in the Hacienda apartments and were absolutely delighted.
The apartments are well enough equipped to easily cook for yourself, very clean, smart and with a lovely big balcony with sunbeds and table and chairs. The bed although a bit small was memory foam topped and quite comfortable. The shower room has a big shower and is very modern and clean.
The top two floors of the Hacienda have absolutely stunning views over the bay, and the bottom floor has direct access to the winter pool and sun-bathing area next to it.
This was our first trip back to El Portus since 2005 and apart from the apartments having been built we were delighted to find that very little had changed. It is still very relaxed and is the perfect place to unwind. Yes there are cats but they don't seem to cause any problems and we didn't see any vermin, maybe these two things are linked?
The staff are friendly and speak excellent English.
The shop sells freshly baked bread (warm) and has enough Spanish and foreign foods and bits and pieces at a very reasonable price so that a trip out is only necessary if you need something a bit more extravagant.
As to the earlier questions about is it a truly naturist site, yes it is, but in a relaxed way. You are not expected to be naked at all times, just when you are in the pool areas (which we saw being enforced). This is fair because people may be walking out of the site, or going to eat indoors in the restaurant where they prefer you to be clothed. In other words its not regimented which just adds to the nice relaxed atmosphere.
All in all a perfect relaxed holiday and we will be going back.

Room tip: Hacienda Best views floors 1&2 Best access to winter pool floor 0. Best floor for disabled access floor 1 car park is on that level.

This was our third year in a row and last as caravan now sold.
However, in the 3 years each year has been worse, no upgrades or improvements. Getting really tired and worn out, staff appear to have given up, with the exception of the loo lady.
Tried the restaurant once, terrible menu, terrible food. Party of 4 and only 2 meals were edible.
Used 2 sites but electric on 1. Asked if the electric cook be split between both sites. The owner came back "It was there to be used, your fault if you didn't use it". Couldn't give a monkeys, and monkeys are what he sees his customers to be, as in feed them peanuts.
Wi fi still on router shared by a few hundred campers, try between 2 and 3.00am and therefore very very expensive for the service quality.
This site is still over run with cats, and bins teeming with flies. Which never get washed out or disinfected. Like I say, place is being run down and imagine in a year or so will be only seasonal or residential villas.

Room tip: Stay as far away as possible from dustbins, as in another campsite.

El Portus, the praises BN have given this place, well it was our first time to this place, and the last. Let us start with the beach, It is a stoney beach, and above the waterline, has more dog ends than stones. The beach is about 100 metres long, cut off both ends by rock formations. Although there signs to the beach entrance NO dogs on the beach. Totally ignored. Dog Mess is discreetly covered with stones. Then there are the Jelly fish to contend with, you can't go in the sea with these around, the swimming pool comes into use. On the subject of dogs the there are to many on the site, most dog owners clean up after their dogs, many however, just look around and then walk off, leaving the deposit. If your looking for a quiet holiday at the seaside, miss this place completely. Kids , young ones up 8 are screaming and shouting gone 10 pm, and after they have gone, the teenagers start their party inside the young children's play area, some of the simulating acts we observed from a chalet A504 were to say the least discussing. The children we saw were local ,as they showed up every weekend we were there. There is a lack of policing by the site to control people making unbelievable noise, pack together needing a feeler gauge between them. Don't expect to get to sleep before 3 am. The Spanish, have this tendency to shout when speaking. Complaining to the reception staff is a waste of time, we were told to complain directly to the Manager, as passing on complaints by them falls on deaf ears. One other thing, or should we say two other things that really spoilt this holiday. Ants, and flies like you have never seen, the later was like I have never seen before, I have lived in South Africa and this came a distance second in this respect. Take fly swatters everywhere you go, or you will be tormented like you have never experienced. All in All. A waste of a lot of money. You do however get a free sun tan.
