The apartment was well placed for central Madrid. A five minute walk to the top of the street brings you to the Grand Via, and from there all the plazas of central Madrid are at most a ten minute stroll away. The owner gave good directions to find the place from the airport, and was contactable throughout if needed. The apartment was on the second floor with no lift so not suitable for the infirm. The area by the apartment is well served for shops and bars, but these didn't pose any nuisance as most are far enough away up the street . We found the apartment clean, comfortable and well enough equipped for a short stay. The kitchen is compact which made the preparation of more than breakfast and light meals problematic, but with all the great food on offer in Madrid who would want to be doing lots of cooking ? If you walk back up the street and go right you come directly to a smart pedestrianized shopping area and just off this are numerous places to eat and drink.
You are in an apartment block with local residents so you do get some everyday noise, people going to work, kids etc. but again with all of Madrid to explore who is going to spend all day in the apartment? Generally the area felt safe, and the apartment adequate as a base for exploring Madrid.
