We found Retiro Park a bit disappointing— it’s all a bit much the same, and the maintenance is lacking in some parts.

The Park has got some reasonably interesting features ( but not outstanding), but mostly it is fairly simple planting of trees and shrubs, with some nice avenues and shaded laneways, but nothing really to get excited about.

As a large area of green space in the middle of a major city, it is a huge asset. As a place to visit, it would not rank highly on our list of priorities

You could spend a whole day strolling around this park
Plenty of shade and a selection of cafes.
The Glass House contained some modern art rather than exotic plants which was a shame

We really enjoyed sitting by the lake and watching the people in the boats. There were also plenty of street artists that offered amazing music and they weren't pushy at all for money. There's also plenty of food all around. The gardens in the front are very well kept and the trees are cut in very neat shapes. As for the other attractions in the park, we weren't able to find them. This park was a really great place to relax after a long day of walking at the Prado.
