We enjoyed a tasty 3 course meal with a bottle of wine for 11 euros each. The restaurant opened at 8:30 and had a line out front. Our service was fast and courteous. The quality of food was flavorful. Lots of locals enjoying the evening. If you can’t arrive at 8:30 then don’t come until 9:30. Restaurant is full.

When entering the restaurant it doesn’t really strike you as a place making an effort. But the opposite is true. It may look like a cheap joint. An it is cheap. But the food is well prepared - they know what they do. My oxtail (Rabo de Toro) was falling apart in that carroty saucy goodness it had been slowly cooking in. The waiter first seemed a bit grumpy, but also that was a wrong first impression - we left happy and content with a good first dinner.

We took the set menu which comes with a starter (spinach was good and mushrooms as well), main dish (sea bream was not nice. Tasted like balsamico. Ribs were not that nice as well. Less meat and tasted just like meat without seasoning) and dessert (flan was bitter but chocolate cake was good). Food just did not fit our taste buds. Service was very good although we had to wait in front of the restaurants since it was too busy inside.

Be prepared to wait in line before being allowed to enter this outstanding center for Spanish cuisine with a stable and growing cadre of followers. But once inside, you can expect excellent food confections at quite reasonable prices. Go during lunch time ( 1:30-4:30PM) weekdays and you will eat splendidly in a small, simple and nice ambiance where you immediately become aware of close familiarity between longtime patrons and efficient waiters that began working there since they were 15 years old ( La Sanabresa has been in existence for over 50 years) . Now, when examining their extensive menu you may be tempted to think they cannot be able to have such a large groceries and meats inventory. How far from reality! Remember, they are open 6 days a week for lunch and dinner and I can assure you they are allways full of customers with a constant flow of clients and an unrelenting revolving door. Aside from their generous, freshly baked, bread portions, half bottle of origin denomination wine and delicious, home made desserts ( all included in weekdays 'Menús del Día' for just 10-11 €), we decided to try some of their "star" dishes hidden among many others. As an initial entry, eggplant "rebozadas" (cooked in batter), cannot be beaten as well as their glorious zucchini cream. But then we tried broiled rabbit in garlic sauce and sauteed lamb sweetbreads also in garlic sauce. What delicious choices! Prepared to perfection, exquisitely flavored, generously portioned. Remember, this restaurant is never empty seated, selections are varied and service reflects a slow paced rythm, typical of a relaxed, unhurried experience with plenty of time to chat, mostly in uninhibited, loud volume, enjoy and pleasuring. But your food will arrive rather unexpectedly and then you are in for a great culinary trip not to be missed while in Barrio de las Letras.

This was a great stop for lunch. We arrived and appeared to be the only two tourist in the place. It was full of locals having lunch - from kids to grandparents. I ordered one of the fixed price menus and it was delicious. Paella, a pork dish and flan for dessert. Great food and good value!

We were happy to have a experience of local dining.
