I suspect their aren't many places like this left in Madrid......overseen by the sprightly Esteban and waiters all very smartly dressed.......starched tablecloths.......correct cutlery and crockery etc. And walls completely covered by photos of Esteban and his customers. Mrs Esteban in the background......of the photos and the restaurant.

We ordered gin and tonics, which were poured with gusto and generosity.......and no measurement whatsoever. Must have been a quadruple.........and meant we didn't finish to be able to move onto wine until the dessert. Food was traditional, but very well execued - grilled hake, roast leg of lamb, bean stew etc. All excellent in the way that comes of years of repetition........and fantastic "baked potatoes".......which were a delightful dauphinoise style rather than in a jacket.

Skinny apple tart was the highlight of desserts........and then Spanish limocellos on the house all round.

A great experience and really good quality food.........only not 5 stars because the service was a tad brusque.........even overbearing at times. Esteban and his waiters should just chill a little and let their customers breathe!

Really good. Had a meal of salad, octopus with potatoes and sirloin steak with truffle mash. Apple tart for dessert. Everything was perfect - the host, waiters and busboys. Incredible service and attention to detail. Drank house red - delish!

We ate here twice during a two-week stay in Madrid. Restaurant is charming in an old-fashioned way; service is terrific and we found the food to be delicious. AND, it was very reasonable. We will definitely go back.

Good food in a nice setting and with very friendly staff! Although in the touristic area, this restaurant is not overpriced and provides good food, wines and service!

Found this traditional Spanish cuisine restaurant on TripAdvisor and reserved through the site. It is a small cosy place with photos all over the walls showing the owner with many other guests. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. One waiter spoke perfect English as he lived in NYC for 3 years. Our family of four ordered steak tenderloin, two servings of veal, and an egg dish with baby eels!! The owner was very attentive and checked in at our table several times throughout the dinner. We received a complementary sample of an interesting appetizer with pork and mashed potato, great bread and olive plate, and palate cleaners between courses. This was one of our most enjoyable dining experiences on our Madrid trip. Highly recommend this place.
