4.5 and close to a 5 star apartment. One of the best we have rented anywhere. We spent five nights in this apartment, taking the Yellow bus from the airport to Achoka and then a taxi through the narrow, one-way streets to meet the owner. (We recommend NOT trying to drive there, and the walk from the train station would be uphill.) The 5th floor apartment (fortunately reached with a small elevator) is spacious, safe, well laid out, quiet, clean, and well lit with very good wifi in the living room area (weak signal in bedroom). Good daylight and lighting since it's on an upper floor, clearly recently renovated as everything is quite new. Bedroom in the back away from the street and high floor provide quiet sleep. Both furnishings and appliances are of very good quality (not something always found in rentals). Furnishings include closets with plenty of hangers, hall coat hooks, plenty of bath towels, and a comfortable bed and living room sofa. The master bath had a very good shower, two bars of soap, vanity mirror and cabinet, and towel rack that heats when the central heat is on. We really did not use the small study/room or second small but full bathroom, but these would be adequate for a third person, especially a child. The washer and dryer are a real plus, although the cycles are long (a couple of hours each!). Ironing board, iron, vacuum cleaner, and a shopping cart in the closet; dishwasher pellets and two laundry pellets were provided. Since we like to cook, we paid attention to the kitchen furnishings – the large fridge with freezer, four burner stove with oven and hood, small microwave, various coffee makers, and table settings for at least four. The “toaster” is actually a sandwich press which only worked on one side. There is a good set of kitchen knives (a remarkable find for a rental), and various cooking utensils (measuring cup, lemon squeezer, etc.) Three pots and 2 frying pans are quite limited (no lids for the two frying pans; very small colander, no pot big enough to cook pasta), but functional with some creativity. The corkscrew was very poor and needs to be replaced; two pot holders were clumsy silicone "mittens" and the cloth one was quite stiff. No paper towels, cloth napkins, or condiments like salt and pepper, vinegar, sugar, etc. Building is on a side street and generally quiet, although neighborhood is replete with restaurants, cafes, street life, especially on the adjacent square. We found groceries, wine, and bakeries nearby. Easy walk to all the main sights of historic/central Madrid, museum mile, etc. Metro stop nearby. (As another note: we contacted our credit card bank to tell them in advance of the damage deposit charge taken on our arrival as we did not want the card to be rejected.) This is an excellent apartment, and we would gladly stay here again.
