Description: The Brainchild of The Hunter twins – Andy and John, the Lord Nelson was opened to pay homage to one of the British Navy’s Greatest leaders, Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté KB. The themed bar/bistro was designed to emulate HMS Victory, with sails & rigging as well as pictures and memorabilia taking locals and tourist alike back in time 200 years to the age of the battle of Trafalgar. Set in the historic Grand Casemates Barracks, the restaurant was one of the first to open in the redeveloped limestone barracks in 2001. It has traditionally been since then THE place to go for live music or to watch sports or even just for a drink or a meal. The restaurant serves a full menu with local favourites, traditional English pub grub as well as a fusion of exotic foods from around the world. We have a well stocked wine cellar to accompany the food, and you will find a selection of cool lagers and best bitters to quench your thirst on a hot summer day.

Initially my friend and I came for a couple of drinks. Two hours later we got hungry and decided to get a couple of sandwiches expecting it to be more of a bite than a meal. The Philly cheese ended up being the biggest and most delicious sandwich I have had in Gibraltar accompanied by home made chips.
The bar staff are attentive and polite always trying to go the extra mile for you and the chefs, noelia and ampara(mother and daughter) do the kitchen proud.

Not very impressive decor or food.
We both ordered a steak & guinness pie, which was very disappointing. More carrot than meat. The chips were soggy and just warm.
The service was rather slack and the prices not cheap. @ £17 each.

Monday 22nd April we had spent a number of hours exploring the Nature Reserve and its historic landmarks.

We made our way back to the town and quickly made our way to this pub located in
Casemates Square.

We chose to sit indoors rather than the outside seating in the Square. We plonked ourselves at the bar on two of the bar stools and we were promptly served by a friendly member of staff.

Our two drinks came to £9.40 which was not overly expensive considering the location and the tourist element.

We sat back and relaxed, rested our weary feet and enjoyed our drinks. It was also an opportunity to look around at the qwerky decor, predominantly of a naval theme, due to name of the Pub.

It was clean well maintained, relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.

We left the bar through a side door which led us into the historic Landport Tunnel.

I'd looked forward to visiting since booking our trip as I love anything historical. Big sign next to the bar advertising that Spanking Roger gin was served, asked for 2. "We don't do it" sign above the bar advertising rose wine by the glass-£3.50. Billed £4.50. When I queried this the barmaid said "they're old signs"
As a bar owner myself I was shocked at the laziness of the owners at allowing this to happen. What does it take to change a few signs? By having old signs up, you're opening your staff up to hassle and they have to take the flack from customers. Would not return.
