Review of Cafe Bar Derby

Cafe Bar Derby
Description: One of the great historic cafes of Santiago, situated at the entrance to the Zona Monumentale, the area of most interest to tourists. Many university teachers and students go there. Good coffee, good cakes, & good beer

Entered around 3 pm. Hardly anybody inside, nobody was eating. The waiter looked extremely bored. Had a glass of wine. Mediocre quality. No positive vibes, decided to eat somewhere else.

Finding it hard to reconcile the reviews with our experience. Maybe we were naive to expect more of 'arroz con tuna' than a bowl of overcooked plain white rice with tuna on top and nothing else with it. The fabada was ok but at over €18 for two snacks and two wines it was expensive and poor value.

Wood paneling, dark green tables and real 1920’s feel at this cafe and bar. Quiet spot where time seems to have stayed still. Well located near Praza Galicia. Stopped by for a great “chocolate con churros” late afternoon snack. Good place to unwind

We stayed in hotel Compostela opposite cafe derby and we finished our night with a couple glasses of vino here.

Plain and simple cafe. Friendly staff. Good wine.
