This small, family-run hotel inside the old city walls was totally wonderful. It's ground-floor had walls dating from Roman times, and the Medieval (?) exterior was well-preserved. Our top-floor room spanned the entire width of the building, with seven tall, arched windows overlooking the town, including the Cathedral, which was practically next door. The room was huge, modern, and gorgeous, but not at the price you would expect to pay for that level of quality. We enjoyed a daily chat with proprietor Xavier (Javier?), who filled us in on the history of everything we asked him about.
From the hotel's central location in the old city, we could walk everywhere in the historic area, including on the walkway on top of the old city walls. Some of the tiny streets were nothing but stairs. Several pedestrian bridges take one across the river to the newer part of Girona.Taxi's can get to the hotel, but other automobiles have to stay outside the walls.More
