I was hesitant to take this recommendation from my hotel concierge. When we arrived and was told "cash only" I thought for certain the show would be a disappointment. But I could have not been more wrong! The show was GREAT! (We did not have dinner).

The performance lasted for about 1 hour and the performers were marvelous! They each did their own thing (dancing, singing, playing instrument) but came together as a group and put on a standing-ovation type of show. The room was quaint and we were seated center in row 2 - very close to the stage. With a decent size crowd, the environment was nice and the performers put on a show for the memories. The best flamenco dance I have ever see.

Highly recommended. Would likely see it again when next in Barcelona.

Jeremy

Dear Arch JayTe,

We are very sorry that you left with such an impression. It is our fault for not conveying to you the concept of what a tablao is and it is a shame you couldn’t enjoy it fully. We try to explain to all our guests what a tablao before going in so they understand what they are experiencing.

We like to say that a tablao is to flamenco what a jazz club is to jazz. It is the most authentic environment to enjoy a flamenco show, a recreation of the family parties in caves where flamenco was born, where the inspiration between the artists and the connection with the audience is special. When flamenco was professionalized, flamenco artists used to perform in what were called “Cafés Cantantes”, which later evolved to become tablaos. Tablaos are always small venues, preferably with good acoustics (vaulted ceiling) with the audience very close to the stage to convey the feelings of the performers from up close. That intimacy that is created with the audience cannot be experienced anywhere else and is why a tablao is the best setting to enjoy an authentic flamenco show. The closeness to the artist, the reduced audience, even the humble wicker chairs are all part of the experience of a tablao, as we always try to deliver the most authentic experience to our guests.

Usually, our guests leave our show excited and inspired by the experience and that is why we have very good reviews on our profile, but we are sorry that you left with such an impression.

Again, we are sorry we weren’t able to explain this to you before, but rest assured that what you experienced was an 100% authentic flamenco show, we hope that this will make you feel better about your experience with us.

Kind Regards,

I really don’t understand why this show has so big ratingSorry, but I think school’s pupils play more realistic than actors in this show!! The price for this show is one of expensive one in Barcelona, btw, and from then on it doesn’t prove it.My recommendation is not to go to this “homemade” show,it will be better to walk around the city.than sit in a tiny and muggy hall and waste your precious time watching this terrible stuff

Dear Melanina1,
Thank you sharing your opinion with us, but we are surprised to read such an impression from one of our shows. We bring to our stage only the best flamenco performers out there and it is hard to understand for us why you would leave with such an opinion, except that you are reviewing the wrong show.
We feel the need to defend our cast, as they are well-known professionals in their craft. While, unfortunately, flamenco is usually seen as a folkloric, stereotyped dance, flamenco is a deeply complex musical genre, there are even several famous jazz musicians that were surprised by the depth and complexity of this art form when collaborating with flamenco artists. Most of the time, it requires a lifetime of practicing to achieve the necessary technique to perform, not to mention the complicated cultural idiosyncrasy of the genre, which makes it very hard for performers who didn’t grow up in a flamenco environment to stand out. For example, there are many countries, such as Russia or Japan, where flamenco is very popular and a lot of performers try to become professionals, but it is very hard for them to stand out because of the musical and cultural complexity of the genre.
We would like to invite you to give it a try and take a couple of flamenco lessons to understand the depth behind what you saw on the stage. During this month, we have had the luck to welcome three of the best flamenco dancers in the world: José Maya, a very charismatic dancer with a personal body language, who has collaborated with artists such as Mark Anthony, Beyoncé or Björk; Juan de Juan, one of the most authentic and wild dancers and a regular in the big flamenco festivals in Spain and Karime Amaya, with an impeccable technique and fiery power, considered the heiress to the best female flamenco dancer in history: Carmen Amaya. You can check out the professional trajectory of our cast online and you will see that they are top professionals with a consolidated prestige.
Even if you didn’t enjoy the show, because not everyone has to like flamenco, we hope that these explanations helped you understand that what you saw was an authentic, professional, quality show and value better your experience with us.
Kind Regards,
