Very jetlagged and hungry, we were searching downtown Santander for a place to eat. Since many eateries in Spain don’t open until very late in the evening we happened upon this cafe that mercifully opened at 8:00. We opted for some light fare and chose a salad with a couple appetizers. Reading little Spanish made it challenging to order, but we were satisfied with the results. We found ourselves eating ham and cheese croquettes, beef meatballs, and another croquette with a dark filling. Later we discovered this to be a squid ink paste of some sort. While the food was not outstanding it was tasty and most welcome to two weary travelers.

Our Airbnb host Mariana recommended Casimira, so we tried it. We arrived early and were the first to be seated in the restaurant, but the bar downstairs was buzzing with people enjoying what looked like excellent tapas. We had the tomato salad, which was a revelation! I wouldn't normally rave about vegetables (I know tomatoes are fruit, but you know what I mean). Big, juicy, meaty slices of tasty tomato, simply dressed with good oil and spanish onion. Delicious! Then we had the cubes of fish again done simply, with a light crumb type batter. The service was also excellent. A wonderful meal!

We were going to "La Mulata" a very popular restaurant in Santander but we were too early and when we saw the menu, that looked great but was more expensive that what we wanted to spend, on the way back to the parking, we saw this non-ostentatious tapas bar and my wife, that has a good nose for good places and good values suggested to dine there. It was a confirmation of her attribute. We had an incredible selection of excellent tapas and very reasonable priced . We saw a lady managing the business and we figured that she was the owner, that, effectively, was. We talked with her and she was a very smart, intelligent woman that opepned this place after loosing her important job when the crisis of 2008. When we told her that we were very satisfied and happy with the food (incredible ensalada, tortilla de papas, croquetas, gambas al ajillo and ensalada de pulpo) and that we were going to review her restaurant in TripAdvisor, she thank us and she said that she appreciate it but it was not too relevant since her clientele was the very loyal local people, that we saw was true. We didn't spot one tourist.
Some curiosity, was the two huge cooper "barricas" that the beer company is filling up directly from a cistern truck that they have for the places with high consumption. Resuming, a place in the hide enjoyed by the locals with good food, good service, good price in a lovely environment

I went there for lunch in a normal day. They had a set meal for that day of only one dish: a "spoon dish" or "plato de cuchara" This day the dish was Lentils. They were one of the most delicious lentils I ever had. I also drank a glass of red Rioja wine and a cup of coffee and cost me 9, 50 euros. Next Saturday I went there with friends but the offer wasn't available on weekends so we ordered a meal from the menu ("carta" in Spanish) and the price rose till 40 Euros each person. Although everything was delicious I think it was expensive

This is a neighbourhood bar/restaurant, but unlike so many others this one is more upmarket, smartly designed with a little bit more class. We had tapas and red wine which proved to be very good. Prices are a little above average.
