“Afternoon delight!”

Peninsula of Magdalena

This is a very picturesque peninsula that juts out into the Bay of Santander. Walking paths meander under umbrella pines past a playground, beach areas, a zoo, and a royal palace. But the most impressive part of the park is the scenery at the point where the waves crash into the rocky shoreline. This is a great place to spend a most pleasant afternoon.

When I visited Santander the weather was not very nice and I did not enjoy the city as much as I wanted, however the views of the peninsula are gorgeous and the houses by the sea show how “señorial” Santander is.

This is a great place to visit with so much to see (free to get in). If you intend to just walk around the headland then allow about an hour and a half but you could either go on the beach for a swim or take a picnic, beautiful settings. The Royal palace is only open to the public at weekends providing there is no private function going on. Large play area for young children. Ample parking in large Car Park by beach (free)

Spent a few hours strolling through this area with my husband. The beaches are gorgeous and quiet and the views are lovely. Sea lions can be found in a pool made up of sea water and some seals in a pool too. One penguin, though we thought there must have been more in the rocks. Not many places to stop for a drink, but we did stop at a bar not too far from the beach and it was very peaceful.

Don't miss this, worth walking round. Little train if you don't fancy walking. Small zoo too, and some boat exhibits.
