We arrived in Bilbao to spend one night before driving out of the city. We were aware the hotel had limited spots, but were told additional parking was available nearby. We pulled across the street (in a non-parking spot), hoping to drop bags, get directions to parking, so one of us could check in while the other secured the car in a lot.
Unfortunately the desk clerk decided to rail on about how cars were unnecessary, he had travelled through Spain, France and Italy without a car, how most hotels had a small percentage of parking for number of rooms, etc.
I told him we also prefer public transport but this time we were headed to places that required a car and would he please just let us know the location of the off-site lot. Meanwhile my partner waited nearby with the car. Finally, I told him he was making me feel unwelcome. He continued being unhelpful so I sent my partner in to finish the process.
I'm not sure if he had a problem with women or I reminded him of someone he had a problem with, but it was ridiculous.
The room itself was okay, considering it was lowered priced. Neighborhood was so-so. But mostly I'd never recommend it because of the way I was treated. There are many better options.More
